Lilja Lions
Your BiWeekly Update from Lilja Elementary School
Greetings from the Lilja Music Room!
In Kindergarten, we learned new songs with movements including My Roots Go Down and Down by the Station. We’ve also been stretching our imaginations with the rhythm poem Bernie Bee, using our High and Low voices.
In 1st & 2nd Grade, we’ve been working on collaborative movement with the song Cut the Cake, as well as recognizing and performing rhythms with Bow Wow Wow. The 1st graders have continued exploring on the xylophones with the rhythm poem Early in the Morning and the 2nd graders have created Sound Carpets for the book Rain Song, using percussion instruments to bring the story to life.
The 3rd Graders are continuing to explore on their Recorders, focusing on tone quality and articulation, and they are working hard to master new notes E & D. They are improving their note reading skills and all are progressing from song to song, earning Recorder Karate belts as they go.
Kudos to the 4th Grade Chorus on an excellent Winter Concert last Thursday, January 25! Congratulations are also in order for a great job at the NPS Choral Kaleidoscope this past Saturday at Natick High School. The Lilja Chorus performed together, first with the Bennett Hemenway Chorus and then with the combined Middle School and High School choirs. We now begin preparing for our Spring Concert at 7 PM on Wednesday, June 5.
As always, it is a pleasure making music with your children.
I hope you’ll be keeping warm with the joy of music throughout the colder months to come.
~Mr. Roper
Things To Know
READ AT HOME!
Reading at home is a crucial activity that can greatly benefit elementary students. Not only does it help improve their literacy skills, but it also contributes to their overall academic success. When parents read with their children, it fosters a love for reading and learning, which can have a positive impact on their educational journey. Additionally, reading at home helps children build their vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. It also provides a wonderful opportunity for parents to bond with their children over stories and explore new worlds together. Set aside time for reading at home and make a difference in your child's academic and personal development!

A quick reminder that the weather is getting chillier each day! We will go out to recess in most weather conditions unless it is dangerous. Please help your child(ren) remember to bring/wear their cold weather gear to school each day, including a hat and gloves. When the snow arrives, in addition to hats and gloves, students will be required to wear snow boots and snow pants in order to play on the playground and fields. If you are in need of support in purchasing cold weather gear for your child(ren) please reach out to Courtney Simoni (csimoni@natickps.org).
