4th Grade Super Sailor Newsletter
Week 24: February 22-26, 2016
Math
This week in math we will begin our unit on measurements. The students will have learning experiences with measuring lengths, capacity, and weight using the customary units. We will have STAAR Wars on Friday to review previously taught concepts through the year.
Science
In science we will begin learning about conservation, renewable and nonrenewable resources. There will be discussions, writing opportunities, and stories shared about how the choices we make regarding conservation and use of resources can affect the earth.
Reading
We are continuing to research! The students have learned about different sources, and how to pull out the most facts. Students are collaborating with other students and asking each other questions to deepen the research questions they are trying to asnwer. In order to be information literate, students must develop the fundamental skills and knowledge of inquiry and research. When preparing for a study of inquiry and research, students need to understand about:
- Selecting topics of interest that are significant.
- Summarizing and synthesizing information
- Demonstrating understanding of information
- Crediting sources
- Presenting information in categories
- Focusing on the topic and including several aspects
- Including facts, statistics, and examples
