A note from our Principal

Dear North Beach Families:

Last week the SPS Board of Directors approved a proposal to add a Seattle Preschool Program classroom at North Beach for the 2023-24 school year that will provide high-quality, evidence-based preschool programming offered by the Seattle Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL). The SPP Plus program at North Beach will provide an all-day tuition-based program that will include a specialized program for children with disabilities. The school day hours will match those of our K-5 students. Applications for the program will be accepted starting March 15. This program will replace our current AM/PM Developmental preschool program.

We’re looking forward to our in-school Global Reading Challenge next week, Friday, February 3, from 8:30-10:00 AM in the school cafeteria. GRC Parents/Guardians are welcome to come watch the In-School Challenge! The winning team from our In-School Challenge will advance to the Semi-Final rounds downtown at the Seattle Public Library Central Branch in the Microsoft Auditorium. The Semi-Final round will take place on: Monday, March 17 at 10:00 AM. If the team representing North Beach wins the Semi-Final, they will then compete in the Grand Challenge City Finals. Thank you to Ms. Bakker for once again coordinating this wonderful program for our 4th and 5th grade students!

Enrollment for the 2023-24 school year continues. This coming Monday, January 31, at 7:00 PM, we are hosting our first in-person open house in the school cafeteria for new families since 2020! If you know someone who has an incoming kindergarten student, please pass this information along to them. We will also be hosting a virtual open house on February 1st at 7:00 pm. A message from the PTA

Thursday, Seattle Public Schools shared a message about the state of the future budget of the district. This 2.5 hour video extensively covers ideas for the massive budget shortfall and potential changes to the district and schools. While no formal or specific proposal has been brought forth (this will happen in mid February or early March) the video is an important watch.

The PTA is gathering information and working on strategies going forward for the best way to advocate for North Beach and the greater Seattle Public School community. Our strength is in our community as a school, PTA, city, and district. We will work collectively to create a hope for our children's future.

Attention all Baseball, Softball, and Tee-Ball players!

Northwest Seattle Little League (NWSLL) is open for registration!

On-time registration for Kid-Pitch players (league ages 8 thru 12) ended January 22nd; however, late registration is accepted as slots remain available.. Our Kid-Pitch age players (ages 8 and up) have Evaluation Day on Saturday, February 11th to assist in (1) determining if an age 8 player is ready for Kid-Pitch, (2) placing players as appropriate in AA, AA, or Majors, and (3) creating balanced teams. Those teams will be created in mid to late February.

For players league age 8 and younger (who play Coach-Pitch or Tee-Ball), teams start up later (early to mid-April), so we accept registrations through mid-March. We will form those teams around March 20th.

Lastly, NWSLL liberally grants scholarship requests to families in need of assistance. Our goal is to help every kid play ball who wants to enjoy the game with friends!
