Ozone Air Pollution
One of the most harmful forms of air pollution
Ozone Pollution
Ozone pollution is formed by a chemical reaction between sunlight and the vapors emitted by the burning of carbon based or fossil fuels. Short term exposure can result in irritation to the skin and respiratory system. Long term exposure can lead to impaired lung function, inflammation of the lung lining, and higher rates of pulmonary disease.

"Bad" Ozone
Possible Solutions
The easiest way to reduce ozone pollution is to reduce carbon emissions and the use of other things that add to the destruction of the "good" ozone. In other words, we need to balance the natural production with the average depletion. Unfortunately, we cannot create more "good" ozone since it is created by the sun. However, we can decrease the rate of depletion by minimizing the amount of carbon emissions we emit into the atmosphere. In fact, over 180 countries, including the United States, has adopted a treaty called the Montreal Protocol to phase out the production and use of ozone-depleting substances.
