Lewisville Times
November 2018
Principal's Message
Dear Cool Cats—
October was an outstanding month here at Lewisville. The students have settled into their routines and lots of learning is occurring in our classrooms.
In the next few days, your child’s teacher may be contacting you to schedule a conference. I would encourage everyone to attend. This is the best way for you to learn where your child is academically. If you have questions before the conference or at anytime during the year please contact the school. Teachers can be reached during their planning times or after school for telephone calls or conferences. Stopping by for unannounced conferences before school is not recommended. Teachers are expected to greet their students at 7:40AM. It is important that the teachers have time and privacy to address your needs. Notes or e-mails are also other ways to successfully communicate with teachers.
Our PTA Yankee Candle Fundraiser was a great success!! A big thank you goes out to our parents and students that raised money and to our PTA members for setting it all up and donating their time.
As always, I would like to thank you for your dedication and support of Lewisville Elementary. I would like to wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving season.

Flu Season Reminders...
Also, please do not return your child to school until:
- They have been fever free (100.4 or less) for at least 24 hours.
- They have not vomited for at least 24 hours.
How do I keep an eye out for school delays or cancellations?
Powerschool Learning will provide you access to your child's teacher's webpage. There you can find their contact information, class information, help guides, and curriculum material.
All kindergarten parents and new students registered for access when they enrolled at Lewisville. The link will provide parents with a "how to register" or "how to locate my password" (if it has been forgotten).
All families are encouraged to sign up today! Classroom teachers can also assist parents if they have questions.
Volunteer and Visitor Check In Procedures...
As we work to implement best practices, professionals recommend limiting school access points and implementing a visitor control system. In response, we have implemented a visitor management system called Ident-A-Kid across the district. Ident-A-Kid is a trusted company that for over 30 years has continued to be a leader in child and school safety programs.
This system includes custom software on a PC kiosk at our front offices. This easy-to-use system will scan your driver's license, take each visitor’s photo and print him or her a badge.
When you visit our school, please go to the visitor PC kiosk, click on the appropriate badge option, and scan your ID. Please wear the badge that is printed for you at all times while in the school. When you leave, simply click the Check Out button and enter the Label ID printed on your badge. If you need assistance with this system, please feel free to ask anyone in the office.
By following this check-in procedure, we are able to verify and register all visitors that come onto our campus, perform sexual offender background checks, check for custody issues and have detailed reports of all this activity logged through the system. These simple actions help improve the overall safety of schools in our district.
Thank you for your help in making our school a safer place for your children!

Beautification Committee
Thank you Kernersville Pumpkins & Christmas Tree for donating the beautiful hay bales, pumpkins and gourds to display outside by the front entrance of the school. They have helped bring fall beauty to the school.
Are you good with power tools?
Do your plants bloom when you enter the room?
Are you happier when you are outside than when you inside?
The Beautification Committee is always looking for more hands. It’s a wonderful way to volunteer, especially for those who enjoy “doing” with their hands. The 2018-2019 vision of the Beautification Committee is “To make Lewisville Elementary School the most welcoming school in NC”, starting with the curb appeal.
A few upcoming projects that are in the works you can help with:
·Replacing the boards on the picnic table near the car-rider area
·Fixing-up the school sign area at the entrance on Lewisville-Clemmons Rd.
·Reworking the memorial garden area behind the Town Hall (did you know this existed?)
·Painting a map of the US on the bus lot
·And many more
If you have tools, great! If you don’t, we can supply what is needed. We just need you!
Please email Josh Robertson at Josh@Graybrooke.com if you are willing to help with the Beautification of LES.
