Dragon Roar: 3.1. 2020
Daring Greatly in Faith, Academics & Service since 1960
First Sunday of Lent
Good afternoon, Dragons,
Welcome Lent. During these forty days, we are asking by the Church to spend intentional time with prayer, fasting, and giving as we prepare our hearts for the resurrection of Easter.
Today's Gospel: Matthew 4:1-11
Jesus fasts for 40 days in the desert and is tempted by the devil.
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. He fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was famished. The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.”
But he answered, “It is written, ‘One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! for it is written, ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.’”
Then the devil left him, and suddenly angels came and waited on him.
Family Connection
When Jesus resists the temptations presented to him by the devil, he draws on his religious upbringing and tradition and remembers God's word in Scripture. Jesus is able to quote from Scripture because he is the Son of God and because he was a human person who lived his Jewish beliefs fully. As partners with you, families, we are all called to support our students fully in our faith traditions so that they too will be able to draw upon this tradition to resist the temptations they will face in their lives.
Today's Gospel is an opportunity to call your family’s attention to the importance of Scripture in our lives to support us in times of suffering and times of joy.
As we begin this holy season of Lent, may we turn away from sin and believe in the Gospel.
Prayers for your families,
Ms. Salazar | Principal
Coronavirus
I have received a few questions from families re: Coronavirus.
I want to remind you of our policy for ANY illness, especially since we are still in Flu Season--any student with a fever of 100.4 or greater will be immediately sent home and is not to return until 24 hours AFTER the fever has returned to normal body temperature. We eliminated the perfect attendance award as we do not want you at school sick. In times of multiple students going home due to fever, any temperature at fever level will be sent home (i.e. low grade fever--99.9 or 100, etc). Take time to heal.
Please help us by ensuring your students are fever free with NO MEDICATION for 24 hours. Adherence to this policy supports 240 students and our 32 team members. Please help us.
Keep washing hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds (say the Our Father or Pledge of Allegiance) and know that, as always, we are disinfecting.
From our Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Marti West:
If this were to occur, we will follow the public school closures as we currently do for inclement weather (for St. Monica this is Judson ISD).
Additionally, the Archdiocesan Director of Academics is putting together strategies for continuing school remotely via the resources we currently have available in our schools (i.e. Google classrooms, RenWeb, email)
St. Monica does have a plan for emergencies and how to keep learning if we would have to be “quarantined.” I will share this information as needed.
God-willing we will not need to implement any plans, but we should be prepared in the event we need to. In the meantime, I ask that you join me in prayer for those directly affected by this health crisis. St. Monica, pray for us.
