Type 1 Diabetes

By Brooke Bowser

Type 1 Diabetes occurs when the pancreas makes little to no insulin. The body's immune system destroys most of the insulin producing cells that are made.

Symptoms- extreme thirst, frequent urination, blurry vision, extreme hunger, and increased tiredness.

Foods to avoid- fried meats, whole milk, fried snacks such as potato chips and pork rinds.

Beneficial foods-baked snacks like baked potato chips, 1% or skim milk, low-fat yogurt, and eggs.

Effects-kidney damage, eye damage, nerve damage, and heart and blood vessel disease.

Duration-type 1 diabetes is a long term condition.

Treatment-taking insulin, carbohydrate counting, frequent blood sugar monitoring, and daily exercise.
