KICKIN' IT WITH KILGORE

HMMS FAM1LY,

FINAL NEWSLETTER OF THE 2022-2023 SY!!!

What a week at HMMS and we are almost there! We started off the week with a town hall meeting with District 1. Thank you to all that came out to visit HMMS that evening. It was good to hear dialogue on what is needed for the future of this county. Tuesday night we had our Upcoming 6th Grade Night and what a crowd it was! I can't wait to get those students in the building in the fall. We wrapped the week up with 6th and 7th grade Field Days. Our students endured the heat and competed their tails off! I am proud of the way they handled themselves and modeled REAL!

Oh... where are the 8th graders? Our 8th graders traveled to Washington D.C. this week. The pictures that Mr. Shoffner has sent back looks like they are having a blast and making memories that will last a life time. Check out some of their pictures in the newsletter below and on our Facebook page. We pray for safe travels as they return home this weekend.

Next week is also a big week for us at 435 Main Street! On Monday night we will celebrate students who received academic awards, REAL awards, and our FAM1LY members of the year at Awards Night. We have all grade levels getting the opportunity to visit TCAT Knoxville on Friday. We have 8th Grade Formal Friday night (I am polishing those dancing boots already) and we wrap up the week with 8th Grade Graduation at 10:00am Saturday morning in the UCHS Auditorium!

We will be sending out information through our Facebook page through out the summer on supply lists, schedules, upcoming events etc. We will start back the newsletter with some July updates and then we are going to move to a more student produced newsletter for next school year.

I can't believe this year is winding down. I have loved every minute of this year, well almost every minute. I am so excited to celebrate our 8th graders this coming week as their transition to UCHS, but I am also equally as excited to bring in another group of Union County students next school year. I am honored and humbled to be your principal and if you ever need anything please reach out!

Be R.E.A.L., not perfect!-

HOW ABOUT OUR TEACHERS!!! HAPPY TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all our wonderful teachers! We have the best in the business at HMMS. Our teachers love on our kids, teach our kids, provide for our kids, and often put our kids before their own families. There is not a better group I would want to work with every single day. I love each of you and what you do for our Devils!

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO DONATED TO TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!

NATIONAL SCHOOL NURSE DAY!!!

Nurse Christy is the best! When we say Best is the Standard at HMMS, Nurse Christy is that. Being a nurse is tough work, being a nurse at school is very tough work, being a nurse at a middle school.... Wow! From snot, to true ailments, to imaginary ailments, to "what does this look like", to vomit... We do not know how you do it! Also, not to mention how many times you have to take the adults blood pressure. We would be lost without you and glad you are a part with our FAM1LY!

FIELD DAY(S)

We loved seeing our 6th and 7th graders compete this week in their Field Day events! Thank you to Ms. Lewis and Mr. Goodin for organizing these events for our kids. Our 8th grade Field Day is this coming Thursday, May 18th. It is a student only event, no parents will be allowed at Field Day.

6TH GRADE NIGHT INFORMATION

We had a packed house on Upcoming 6th Grade Night! Other than some technology not wanting to work, it was an amazing night. Please check Facebook over the summer for updates and information next school year. Below you will see the presentation from that night:

COUNTY COMMISSIONER VISITS

Thank you to all the County Commissioners that have came out and visited the school over the last couple of weeks. It was good to show them the conditions our students currently learn in our what our staff teaches in. We will always adapt and do what is best for students, but it is clear the need for a new school is here. I appreciate our commissioners leadership and pray for them as they have to make tough decisions for the entire county in the next months. I don't envy them at all, but appreciate them tremendously. Check out the presentation we shared and some photos of the current condition of HMMS below:

WAY TO BE R.E.A.L!

- Shout out to Ms. Lewis and Mr. Goodin for organizing our Field Days this week. I appreciate them modeling REAL and creating an opportunity for students to make memories.

- Shout out to Mr. Wilson, Mr. Kear, Ms. Walston, and Mr. T for their involvement with their kids during Field Day activities. They encouraged to students to participate who otherwise wouldn't have. Way to model Respecting Everyone and Living a Life that Matters!

- Shout out to Mr. Goforth for always volunteering to help others and on days when we are short staffed he is one of the first to take on extra. Way to Live a Life that Matters!

- Shout out to Ms. Doris as she held down the fort this week in the front office and Officer Reyda for stepping up and helping out. While somehow keeping a smile on their face! Way to Respect Everyone!

- Shout out Officer DJay and Officer Reyda for showing their un-athleticism during Field Day. We are lucky to have those two modeling REAL for our students every single day!

F.A.M.1.L.Y.

We want our school to be a family first atmosphere and we will define family as the acronym- Forget About Me I Love You. We want our students to learn to serve others and this will also align to our core values.

- Shout out to Mrs. Kilgore, Mrs. Harrison, Ms. Day and Mr. Wilson for organizing and/or helping with all the Teacher Appreciation Week activities! It was an awesome week for our teachers and our school. Great food, activities, games and prizes! Thank you for putting others before yourself and modeling FAM1LY!
