1. UPstanders
UPstanders (noun):
A community-engaging anti-bullying program that facilitates celebration, family togetherness and local economy stimulation.
LTHS Guidance & Counseling Department is coordinating a new program called UPstanders. UPstanders recognizes students on a monthly basis for contributing to a positive school climate, aligned with positive traits, detailed in the "LION'S PRIDE" acronym.
This month, for "P", we are recognizing one student per grade level that exemplifies PERSEVERANCE! Students were nominated by LTHS staff.
Each UPstander will be rewarded a gift card to a local restaurant. Parents will be strongly encouraged to take their whole family to this family dinner.
As our UPstander partner, we are very thankful to the Espo's Pizzeria for their sponsorship of this month's gift cards!
The spirit of this program is multi-pronged and seeks to achieve the following:
1. Encourage the facilitation of a positive school climate;
2. Celebrate our youth for being contributory to a healthy community;
3. Engage our local small businesses;
4. Promote family togetherness through a meal.
As research shows, it is often through a positive family environment that students increase their overall sense of belonging— and those with a strong sense of belonging have prosocial behaviors, helping to facilitate a positive school climate.
We appreciate the Espo's Pizzeria partnership, our student’s positive behaviors and our nominating staff! We are pleased to announce our UPstanders:
Charles Elmer, Senior
Nora Aguirre, Junior
Vincent (VJ) Vigliante, Sophomore
Ryan Brewer, Freshman
Congratulations to these young adults, their parents and their families! Enjoy a meal at the Espo's celebrating this success!

2. Spring College Fair: March 28
March 28: RWJBarnabas Arena (Toms River High School North)
Students and parents alike inquire regarding the best time to begin preparing for college. Though applications cannot be submitted prior to the summer before senior year, preparation can come in a variety of forms. First and foremost, families should become informed about potential collegiate options.
Ocean County School Counseling Association (OCSCA) makes this especially doable during their college fairs. Typically held in the Fall and the Spring, the second OCSCA fair is scheduled to be at the RWJBarnabas Arena, attached to Toms River High School North, on the evening of March 28th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Please take note that there is also a financial aid presentation at 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM, in addition to a NCAA workshop at 7:00 PM on the same night.
Each representative is truly an expert on their college and will provide a wealth of information to students and families of various backgrounds.
See this flyer as a visual for this "Save the Date!" You can also click on the icon for more information about the event.
We encourage students and parents of all grades to attend!
3. NJGPA Testing for Juniors (3/14-3/17)
All juniors in Lacey Township High School will be taking a mandatory test in mid-March called the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment, or NJGPA. During first period on Tuesday, March 14th through Friday, March 17th, students in grade 11 will be assessed in their English Language Arts proficiency, as well as their understanding of Mathematics. This test is being administered per the New Jersey Department of Education.
On testing days, non-testers (in grades 9, 10 and 12) will report to their regular schedules. Further, juniors will be expected to attend their classes in periods 2-4 after their test completion.
We recommend that juniors and their families engage in this website, which provide practice tests for the NJGPA!
BEST OF LUCK!
4. Lacey's Underclassmen College Planning Night
Lacey Township High School will be hosting their first ever Early College Planning night! This event will occur in the Lacey Township High School Auditorium.
During this informational session, Mrs. Stephanie Farnkopf, our College/Career Counselor, alongside Dr. Leah Purpuri, our Supervisor of Guidance, will review post-secondary education planning and appropriate timelines.
To freshman and sophomores, college can feel like a distant future, but the reality is that what is done in every year of high school matters. We wish to increase the preparedness of our 9th and 10th graders. We invite you to come learn how to make the best of the high school experience and increase the likelihood of attending your college of choice!
We recommend you RSVP by clicking here, or on the flyer posted below.
We hope you can make it!

5. Counselor Appreciation
Each year, school counselors are formally acknowledged for their contributions to students and their families during National School Counselor Awareness Week.
Lacey Township High School has a very strong group of counselors, and we are grateful for them! See below for a roster of our outstanding counseling staff. Thank you for all that you do!!!
6. Mental Health Spotlight: The Power of Sunlight
Studies indicate that there is great power in exposure to sunlight. In synopsis of this brief article, sunlight may increase Vitamin D, boost mood, promote higher quality sleep, build better bone density and lower blood pressure.
