Pierremont Paw Print
Back to School Edition- August 14, 2020
Note from Gina
Next week is officially back to school week! I want to thank our staff and families for the support and hard work as we get ready for school. Pierremont is a shining example of the Parkway mission, to be capable, curious, confident, and caring while navigating an ever-changing world. I am proud of our staff and the community. Below are several items to help prepare you for next week.
Have a great weekend!
Meet the Teachers & Materials/Supply Pick-Up
To maintain the health and safety of you and our staff, we are using a drive-through method for all families (even typical walkers). To give children ample opportunity to see the smiles and excitement of their teachers, to receive materials, and maintain traffic safety, we will use a staggered schedule by grade level and teacher. Please click on the large link below for detailed instructions, schedules, and logistics.
As a reminder, all students will receive a set of curriculum materials during meet and greet. Curriculum materials are those materials like books and manipulatives. If you can not attend meet and greet, you may pick up supplies and material on Saturday, August 22, from 9:00-10:00 am.
Curbside Library Book Service
Hi Panthers! I'd love to begin curbside book service during distance learning but need to know if this is of interest to our Pierremont families. Please take this 3 question survey by Sunday, August 16th, so that I can begin planning for the upcoming school year. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out at hhanneke@parkwayschools.net.
Thank you! Hollie Hanneke
Getting Ready for School -Tips for the Home
Set a designated workspace for your children at home. Having a consistent space helps children with routines.
Keep clutter low to minimize distractions.
Help children learn to organize their materials in the workspace.
Let your child personalize the space with their artwork or a favorite item. Having a personal connection to the workspace helps children stay motivated.
Get excited about school. We can't help that we are in a pandemic, but we can view distance learning as a new and exciting opportunity few others have had. Children thrive on positive emotions from the adults around them.
How can caregivers help at home?
School start time is 8:30 daily. You or your child's caregiver should help ensure kiddos are online and ready to engage.
In the first week of school, time will be spent building the classroom community and learning the virtual classroom technicalities, routines, and procedures.
The daily schedule includes screen time and non-screen time. Our teachers are carefully crafting the asynchronous and synchronous lessons and activities that will meet the essential curriculum needs of the students.
One of the most important things a caregiver can do is help children stay on schedule and online at the appropriate times. Caregivers do not need to be a teacher. Teachers will check in with students to see how they are doing.
The teachers and staff at Pierremont are here to help your children and you as we navigate and use technology in ways we never thought possible.
