Principal's Message
We are so happy to be back in school for the 2020-21 school year. We missed you all terribly during the spring school dismissal time. It was truly a painful time to be away from you all for so long. We have now ended our first two mini terms and, other than needing to wear masks, staying spread out for lunch, and staying on the right side of the hallway, things are feeling back to normal. I hope that you recognize that this school is filled with the most dedicated staff that are completely focused on our school's three core values: Belonging, Mentoring, and Preparing. I feel that we need each other more this year than any other time in our history. So let's make this a great year and look out for one another. Go Eagles!
2020 Graduation
Student of the Month - Leticia Barajas
Leticia Barajas was selected as GWHS’s Student of the Month for March, 2020, just as the schools shut down. Leticia came to GWHS her sophomore year with a desire to improve her attitude and school habits. She experienced great success here earning high grades and an amazing 12.75 credits last year. She has been a Student Body Officer and is this year’s SBO president. She pays special attention to Language Arts and Math classes and reading because she sees these as skills that will be important to her success in life. As the school’s librarian, I can say for certain that she is one of the library’s best patrons!
Leticia expects to graduate in November, which is six months early. She plans to attend the OWATC to study cosmetology and business with the goal of owning her own salon one day. She is determined to succeed and wants to save money to buy her dream car – a 2016 Dodge Challenger Demon. She loves spending time with her family, her boyfriend and his family and playing soccer and football for fun, as well as practicing boxing. Congratulations Leticia!

Service week
COVID-19 has caused us to rethink many things at George Washington. Lemonade Town was one of them. In previous years, Lemonade Town was a chance for students to make up CTE credit by working together to create a small business within each Advisory class selling lemonade.
However, with COVID-19 this was not possible, so we had to plan something new. Looking at the credits our students needed the most we realized that a project that would earn ELA credit would be the most helpful. We still wanted to offer something that would have students working together in a creative way while offering credits during the shortened week.
As such Service Week was born. Each Advisory class was asked to look at how they could improve our beloved George Washington and come up with a plan for how to make those improvements. Some classes looked at bringing about building improvements, others suggested bringing in new classes, others discussed bringing sports to our small school, and even more. Students were asked to consider improvements they wanted, present their ideas to their group, and then decide together what would be the best thing. Each group then made a business proposal and created a visual advertisement to convince others to vote for their project. Ultimately, Mr. Wilson's class won the competition, but all the students who worked hard were rewarded with ELA credit.
Many students reported wanting to keep something like this as a tradition for our school moving forward.
