Message from our New Superintendent: Paul Corrigan

Dear Elk Island Catholic School Community,

Earlier this week, Premier Jason Kenney announced that many of the COVID-related restrictions that have been in place across Alberta are being lifted. A number of these changes directly impact schools and I would like to share that information with you.

Mask laws are changing: Starting Monday, February 14, students will not be required to wear a mask at school or on the bus. We will continue to provide masks and test kits sent from the Provincial government for EICS families. Students who choose to continue wearing masks will be fully supported in this family decision. Adults are still required to wear masks in all public places, including schools, both during and after regular school hours. Visitors will no longer be required to present their proof of vaccination.

Please continue to follow the AHS Daily Checklist: The importance of daily screening will remain essential to keeping our students and staff safe. Here is a link to the updated Daily Checklist. https://open.alberta.ca/dataset/56c020ed-1782-4c6c-bfdd-5af36754471f/resource/58957831-a4ab-45ff-9a8e-3c6af7c1622e/download/covid-19-information-alberta-health-daily-checklist-2022-02.pdf

Parents are expected to keep students home if they are not well, and isolation requirements for people testing positive have not changed. Our continued goal is to minimize the possibility of moving classes, grades, or schools online.

Continued Enhanced Cleaning and Sanitization: EICS will continue to provide enhanced cleaning and sanitization of our schools and facilities to assist in a safe school environment.

The EICS 2022 School Plan which is located here on the website https://www.eics.ab.ca/about-us/media-room/post/updated-school-plan-2022

will continue to be updated as we receive information from the province, and your school may be communicating school-specific information to you in your regular communication.

In closing, I want to extend my great appreciation to our EICS families and school community for your ongoing support and patience as we navigate and change course. Our commitment remains to ensure that we do everything possible to create a safe and faith-filled educational experience for all of our students.

God bless,

Paul Corrigan, Superintendent
