The Fairview Connection

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
We’ve had another productive week here at Fairview and in our remote classrooms! All Fairview students participated in their MAP assessments on Tuesday and Wednesday. These assessments will give us a snapshot of each student’s current performance and will provide us with helpful school wide data to identify instructional areas of focus as we continue to support our students. Families will receive a copy of their child’s MAP assessment reports with their third trimester report card. Starting the week of May 3rd, our third through fifth grade students will also be participating in IAR testing (Illinois Assessment of Readiness). I will share more details about the schedule in next week’s newsletter.
Looking forward to next week, on Wednesday our PTO is participating in the annual Capannari’s Coolest School Contest where 10% of all sales by families who make an ice cream order online will go directly to our PTO. If we are among the top three of all schools who participate, we will split 10% of the total proceeds of the entire Coolest School event for our PTO. Click here for more details. In other PTO news, just as a reminder, today is the last day to sign up for the 5th grade activities virtual trivia night (5th graders only) and to place your PTO plant sale order.
While we’ve spent a lot of time recently sharing about how wonderful it has been to have students back in person (and it sure has been amazing to be back together in person with many of our students again), as the staff and I have reflected back on all that was and for many continues to be accomplished during remote learning, I am truly grateful for the remote experiences we’ve had this year. I wanted to share a few reflections that Fairview staff members and I have had about our remote experiences with students that I think will serve as an encouragement to our community. While learning remotely certainly has come with its challenges, it has also been filled with many positive attributes as well. It may be tempting to think only about the time lost out of the classroom, so hopefully these reflections from the staff will have a positive impact!
For a few more updates including the raffle winners for our next Character Card Lunch and our upcoming Fairview birthdays, please watch this week’s video newsletter. Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal

NEWS FROM THE LRC
Due to COVID-19, the 2021 Read to Succeed Program has been suspended. Six Flags knows that this has been a trying year and because of this, any unused tickets earned during the 2020 season will be valid through August 31, 2021 to provide families with even more flexibility to visit. For complete details of the park, to make reservations and hours of operation, please visit Six Flags Great America Chicago.
LUNCH REMINDERS
PLEASE put your child’s name in permanent marker on his/her lunchbox.
PLEASE send spoons or forks if your student will need one for something in their lunch (i.e., pudding, fruit cup, etc.).
PLEASE make note of the lunch/recess schedule:
2nd/3rd grade-11:50 lunch/12:20 recess
4th/5th grade-11:50 recess/12:20 lunch
Also, please remember to put your child's name on his/her water bottle so it can be returned if it gets misplaced.

DONATE TO DISTRICT 57 FAMILIES IN NEED
COVID-19 has presented many unique hardships and challenges for some of our family members, friends and neighbors. Some parents have asked if it’s possible to make a financial donation to help support District 57 families who are currently in need. The District has set up a system to facilitate this for anyone who is interested. We will distribute the collected funds to families, based on formal requests that are made. If you would like to donate, simply go to this link and follow these steps:
- Click on “Make a one-time payment.”
- Fill in your student’s name, school and grade.
- Click “COVID-19 Donation to District 57 Families.”
- Fill in your information and donation amount, then proceed to the payment section.
Thank you so much, in advance, for your kindness and generosity.
Those who are in need of support can fill out this online form. Names will only be seen by select district personnel who are distributing the funds.
Thank you,
