Apex Fundraiser
The final and one of the largest PTO fundraisers of the year is coming in a few weeks. The Apex Fun Run is scheduled for Friday, May 19, and the Apex coaches will be here daily leading up to the Fun Run. Other scheduled activities are a Teacher Huddle on Monday, May 8, at 8:30 and a school wide Pep Rally on Tuesday, May 9, at 11:00. Watch for more information about the Fun Run and thank you for supporting this PTO event that helps us do more for our staff and students.
SMARTS Summer Program
Thank you for identifying students for the summer SMARTS Program. Right now we have the following numbers of students enrolled: going into 1st grade: 13; going into 2nd grade: 6; going into 3rd grade: 8; going into 4th grade: 7; going into 5th grade: 2; going into 6th grade: 14. We'd love to have full classrooms at each grade level and that target number is between 17-25 students. Teachers, whatever you can do to identify, complete forms, and make parent contact to get more of our students engaged in summer learning is appreciated.
Going To Recess, Coming In From Recess, and Leaving the Cafeteria
We need everyone's support with hallway noise and student behavior going to recess, coming in from recess, and leaving the cafeteria because there is residual noise that is interfering with an environment conducive to testing. Teachers, please make sure you have practices and procedures to lead, monitor, and supervise your students going to recess and leaving the cafeteria after lunch. We also need support keeping students as quiet as possible when they come in from recess and travel to the cafeteria. Thank you for your help with this.
Earth Day
The background photo was taken last Friday as Mrs. McCarthy's and Ms. Walters's classes were cooperating to clean up our grounds. On Saturday, a small but mighty crew came together to do some more cleaning of our school property. Thank you to parent Jenny Lorinser and Dan McCarthy (Kay's husband) for organizing and leading this project; our grounds are looking great. I sure did learn a lot about buckthorn that day!
Minnetonka Police Officer to Visit
Officer Scott Marks, Community Engagement Officer for the Minnetonka Police Department, will be here next Monday morning, May 1st, at arrival to hand out pencils to our arriving students. This is one of the strategies the police department is using to connect with elementary schools and our students.
