Weekly Reflection: Does Positive Thinking Really Work?

There are many articles, books and TV shows claiming that there is truth in thinking positively to successfully achieve whatever goals you have in mind. Is it really that simple? Many skeptics have a hard time believing that thinking positive is their key to gaining success because the truth is, there is so much negativity in the world that it makes it hard for anybody to change his or her way of thinking and start being optimistic.

How you think and perceive yourself is one of the most important factors in determining how successful you are in all aspects of your life. Positive thinking may not be an easy task but if you want to achieve your goals and make your dreams come true, you may want to start controlling your thoughts and leading them toward optimism.

The truth about the law of attraction

There is scientific evidence that there is a special relationship between the way the mind works and the results that you get out of it. The Law of Attraction simply states that we can get what we want by just thinking about it and attracting it to our thoughts. In fact, the circumstances that we are in aren’t entirely determined by fate but rather, also shaped by both our conscious and unconscious thoughts. As stated in the famous book, The Secret, harboring more positive thoughts gives you a higher chance of approaching life and business with more success and optimism. By believing that success is within your arm’s reach, you will be more than willing to take on any challenges that come your way. Being optimistic will also help you eliminate and overcome any obstacles that may hinder you from getting to your goals.

Tale as old as time

For decades, people have believed in the power of positive thinking and numerous scientific studies were done to prove that there really is a direct relation between a person’s thoughts and the end results. This is further proven in the medical world by people who have suffered from terminal cancer or other debilitating illnesses but still managed to survive because of their positive mindset and a firm belief that they will manage to overcome such obstacles.

Evaluating your thoughts

Changing the way you think is not as easy as it seems and is a process that will take you more time to master. Fortunately, there is a way to make it easier for you to travel the road towards optimism. By evaluating your emotions, you can understand its relationship with your thoughts and how your conscious and subconscious mind is affecting your feelings. When feeling upset or moody, you are most probably harboring more negative thoughts than positive thoughts in your mind. It is imperative that any negative thoughts, feelings or emotions be eliminated immediately. However, evaluating your thoughts is not enough if you want to maximize the full potential of positive thinking in order to be successful in reaching your goals. The next step that you need to learn is to control your thoughts.

Controlling your thoughts

Positive thinking has always been, and always will be, an effective way to successfully reach your goals. You should know by now that feeling depressed could mean that you are entertaining negative thoughts in your mind and the best way to deal with this situation is to direct your conscious mind into thinking positive thoughts. You can easily do this by thinking of things that you are grateful for, reading a success story or picking up a motivational book, to help you turn your thoughts to optimism. This will be made easier if you keep inspirational quotes around to uplift your mood every time you are feeling down.

Thinking positively and practicing the Law of Attraction may not be easy at first but if you are keen in achieving something much greater in your life, you will have to practice and master the process of overcoming any negative thoughts that come into your mind. Being optimistic will not only make it easier for you to achieve your goals and attract more positive energy into your life, but will also make it easier for you to eliminate any obstacles to keep yourself on the right track.

Think of it as a Brain Break for your students and as we know encouraging students to relax and become "mindful" has a dramatic positive impact on their education. Please sign up (for free) at and get acquainted with the site. I want this to be a part of the program at OLM - starting in January 2016. What that means is finding time during the day - first thing in the morning - beginning of a class - right before recess - right after lunch - and my favorite - the 6th Period Stretch., etc. (about three times total) So many of our students need this program and it literally takes mere minutes. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation with this most important program.
