Village Insider (COVID-19): Issue 2
Aurora Community School
If you received a robocall at 5:30 PM this evening, please disregard that first call. We scheduled it weeks ago and with the many recent changes, canceling it unfortunately slipped our minds. It must be because we miss you so much. :-)
We are still following the executive order from the governor. Please see below for additional information on remote learning.
Governor Polis signed an executive order suspending in-person learning in public and private schools across the state from March 23-April 17; this means students will return to school on Monday, April 20th. However, the executive order directs schools to make every effort to provide alternative learning opportunities during this time, while taking into account the needs of our local community. We will be sharing updates about this, in the coming days!

Remote Academic Learning
What's coming? At least...
- 1 live session with the classroom teacher per week
- Office Hours (support with work, check-in, etc) 2 times a week
- additional videos/resources to support students and parents with additional work
- mailed packets of worksheets, tied to the learning for the week
- baggie of manipulatives to support students while they work on their own/with you
What can you do in the meantime?
Check out this link to a TON of activities that students can do at home in the meantime (and during the rest of the time we are away from school). If it requires a school level subscription, please reach out to us so we can get things set up for you!
And, don't forget, reading for at least 30 minutes (maybe even 45 minutes) everyday is ALWAYS a best practice! You can find read aloud books online for free, or just pull out one of your books at home and read together for fun!
Thanks for your patience, as we work to create a good experience for you and your students!
Technology at Home
As we prepare for what school looks like while practicing social distancing, ACS wants to check in with families and gather some information to help us support you in the days and weeks ahead. Please complete this survey to share more about the tools you have available at home!
Food Boxes: Friday March 27
In addition, this Friday, March 27 from 11 am - 1 pm, we will be offering:
- small bags of perishable and non-perishable groceries, that you can cook at your home.
We will serve until we run out of items; so this is offered on a first come, first serve basis. To get a better sense of who might be interested, please complete this quick Google form (in English/in Spanish), so we can properly prepare!
- you can also pickup a $50 grocery store gift card during this time.
Just so you know, we are currently working with a few of our partners to donate gift cards to our families; we will share updates, as soon as we have them!

ACS Calendar for 2020-2021
After talking to students and staff, we are considering a change for next year: although we will remain open from 6:30 am - 6:30 pm each day, we are considering ending the academic school day at 3 pm. We've learned that, by this time, our students are in need of opportunities that stretch their brains differently; so are considering utilizing 3-4 pm to enrich their learning, alongside academic-focused community partners. However, we don't want to make any changes without your voice. Therefore, we ask that you take a moment to complete this poll to share your thinking on the change for the day.

Building Update
In the last two weeks, they have:
- carpeted almost every classroom
- installed all lighting in the building
- started to put in the fixtures in the bathrooms (now that the floor and paint is complete)
- wired the building for security measures
- installed the doors to classrooms/offices
We are set to have an inspection by the week of April 7th; once we have clearance, we will begin moving items into the building!
We can't wait to have our soft grand opening, so you can see the beautiful school your child(ren) will be learning in! Stay tuned!
Go to https://smile.amazon.com/, login as you normally would, and type in our school name (Aurora Community School); we will show up as a Charter School in Denver Metro, CO.
