Ambassador Gregg Meets the Cub Scouts

Thank you to Sharon Tomback and Ree Schultz of the North Castle Historical Society and Ambassador Donald P. Gregg for hosting and leading the Bear Scout (third grade) meeting last week! The cub scouts met in the 1800s one-room schoolhouse next to Smith's Tavern on Bedford Road.

It was truly a delight for the cub scouts to meet and talk with Ambassador Gregg. A longtime Armonk resident (and Westchester native), Ambassador Gregg is currently Chairman of the Pacific Century Institute. Previously, he was the former Ambassador to South Korea, National Security Adviser to Vice President H. W. Bush, and CIA Chief of Station throughout Asia. Ambassador Gregg served in the CIA for 31 years, personally working with seven U.S. presidents.

Ambassador Gregg shared with the cub scouts his experience working with the US Presidents and other world leaders, giving insight into their personalities. The conversation also included an appreciation of Native American culture and its contribution to our society along with stories that were handed down from his father and grandfather that brought American History to life.

It was a great example of an active leader on the international stage sharing experience, knowledge, and stories with the next generation.

As a testament to the event’s success, many of the boys stayed after the meeting ended in order to continue the conversation. Global leadership, service to one’s country, and local community engagement are no longer abstract concepts to these third graders.

Hello all -
As some of you may know one of our own families, the Sootins have been helped by this charity. Their son Adam, in 5th grade, is in remission from cancer. Julie was a den leader and the Dave still helps with building the derby. They are chairing the walk this year.

So please consider coming out to support this effort. I have made a team "Armonk Scouts" for us all to walk together. Or if you can't make the walk, you can make a donation online...
