Keeping our Schools Safe
Back to school means it is time for staff and students to practice safety drills. Clinton County RIII School District is committed to taking appropriate and direct measures to ensure the safety of our students and staff members. While we hope that a natural disaster or other serious event never occurs, our objective is to be as prepared for any possible emergency. At all times it is our priority to protect all students and staff. Each building facility has a comprehensive crisis and safety plan. The plans are designed with the assistance of professional law enforcement, counselors, administrative staff members and public officials. The plans, which are regularly updated, include procedures to respond to a variety of crisis events. These drills are supervised and evaluated by professionals from law enforcement and our local fire department.
Last Friday, CCMS and PHS students participated in an intruder drill. During the lock down drill, staff and students learned how to properly respond to threatening situations, such as a potentially dangerous or armed intruder in the building. This is the third drill of the school year. Throughout the school year, we will continue to participate in fire, tornado and intruder drills. District personnel will participate in active shooter training during professional development sessions this school year. In addition to our intruder, fire, and tornado drills, the district has implemented a new security system in all of our buildings for 2015-16.
· All visitors to our schools must enter through a controlled electronic entry system, sign in at the main office and receive a guest pass.
· All doors are locked and no one may enter without first identifying themselves and their purpose.
· Our full time school resource officer, Nick Little, is on duty during school hours.
In the event of an actual emergency, the district will notify parents immediately. At this time the district does not notify parents of drills. If you have any questions about the school safety policies, please contact building administrators.
