Year-End Thank You Notes
Arlington Science Focus: Deloitte
Thank you so much to our volunteers from Deloitte who came to help us with Field Day. We appreciate all your support and the students had a ball.
Arlington Traditional: Parent Volunteers
Ashlawn: Karen Perrote
Ashlawn holds a special place in their hearts for Mrs. Karen Perrote, 2019 APS Honored Citizen (second from left), for her 10 + years of volunteering!
Campbell: Arlington Transit @Art_Alert
Thank you Arlington Transit and @Art_Alert for teaching our first graders about ART bus maps as part of our expedition work. We always look forward to working with you and finding routes to help us conduct field work using local public transportation!
Carlin Springs: Encore Stage & Studio
In the Fall of 2018, Carlin Springs began a wonderful partnership with Encore Stage & Studio to bring a Kid Pan Alley residency program to the school. Carlin Springs 4th graders created original music and lyrics for The Talented Clementine. As a culminating event, the 4th graders attended the live production in June at the Gunston Arts Center. The students were very excited and proud to see the final result of their hard work and hear their songs performed by such talented young artists. Thank you Encore Stage and Studio for your continued support.
Kenmore: Mr. Price and Ms. Simpson
Kenmore is grateful for the tremendous help and support from the volunteers in Mrs. Parkhurst’s math class. Thank you both for the time commitments that you have shown to help with the Math tutorials for our students. The SOL tests results were excellent thanks to the teacher’s hard work, to the volunteers support and to the students effort. Kenmore volunteers make a huge difference in our students’ lives.
Long Branch: Reach for Reading
Reach for Reading is a monthly family literacy program at Long Branch Elementary School for Pre-K through 3rd grade English Learner (EL) students and families. This program has grown to be the most attended event at the school with consistent attendance between 70-150. Meetings model reading, writing, math and/or social-emotional skills so parents can practice coaching their children at school and can continue to do so at home.
This year’s program featured a visit to Arlington Central Library and a performance of Havana Hop! Over 500 items were distributed for students and families to use at home, including school supplies and books. Over 25 staff members and the PTA supported the 100+ families that attended this year.
Nottingham: Mr. Walden
Mr. Walden received thank you cards written by students. He is a wonderful school volunteer who is not an APS parent but loves students and science. He brings his enthusiasm into the classroom each time he visits. Nottingham 5th graders thank you for your dedication this year.
Taylor: Debbie Pearson and Tracey Dougherty
Congratulations to Debbie Pearson and Tracey Dougherty as recipients of the 2018-2019 Taylor PTA Volunteers of the Year Award. We truly appreciate Tracey and Debbie’s commitment of time, energy, enthusiasm and support of the Taylor community, and thank them for making our school a better place and for enriching the lives of our children, teachers and staff. This award is so well deserved. Thank You!
Williamsburg: Marcia Wright
“Being able to give back and help shape the young minds of current Arlington students brings me an abundance of pleasure”.
Yorktown: Kelli Davis
Kelli Davis, Yorktown’s newest volunteer, helps daily in the library and anywhere else she is needed. Her smile and cheerful demeanor brightens up our days. Thank you, Kelli.
