Think back to your first year of teaching. Do you remember your mentor? Mine was my team leader. She basically helped me figure out how to be a teacher. She provided me with advice on how to write lessons plans, was a sounding board for all my crazy ideas, and asked me questions to spur my thinking when I was reflecting about lessons I'd taught. She left my school after my second year teaching and went on to graduate school to get her doctorate. Since then, I've had other mentors to guide me in my profession. These mentors after my first year of teaching have served in a different role. As an experienced teacher, I no longer needed someone to tell me exactly what to do, but I did need thinking partners to help me analyze lesson ideas, think through strategies to reach struggling students, challenge my thinking, and to celebrate successes. Who do you have now to do these things for you? Is it someone on your team? Someone else in the building? Someone else in the profession? If you don't have someone, I encourage you to think about who could be your mentor. We all need someone to help us keep our teaching fresh!

We have a busy week this week! Bryan and I are looking forward to stepping into your extended planning meetings tomorrow. As always, please be sure to send us your agenda with notes. Also, all staff on the T-TESS appraisal system must have an end of year conference, even if you were not observed this year. Bryan and I have already sent out the signups for these meetings. If you haven't signed up yet, please do so today. We are looking forward to meeting with you! Finally, our volunteer appreciation breakfast is Friday. We will be setting up for the breakfast right after school on Thursday. This is an all hands on deck situation. Please stop by the library and lend a hand so we can get everything done quickly. If you signed up to bring something, don't forget it! Please plan to stop by for a few minutes during the breakfast on Friday to personally thank our volunteers.
