Updates, Information, and Ideas for DCSC Staff
April 1, 2020
In order to be respectful of everyone's time, I have broken the newsletter down into information that staff "Have To Know" and information that is "Nice to Know." In addition, I have tried to break things down further by grade level or subject area. Please ensure you read and/or respond to anything in the "Have To Know" section that applies to a grade level or subject area you teach.
If you find any ideas, websites, books, etc. that you think are worth sharing out, please send them my way and I am happy to include them!

eLearning Reminders and "Must-Dos"
Reminders
- Because we have both online materials and paper copies available, ALL students should be able to stay fairly up to date on the curriculum. Please reach out to students that you know have not requested paper copies and are not logging in to Schoology. If you do not see a change or cannot get ahold of a student/parent, please contact your guidance counselor/s or principal/s for assistance.
- When you text/email parents from Infinite Campus, please remember to include your name (and course/class period if applicable) so they know who the message is coming from.
- All eLearning work should be up for students by 9 AM every day. (It's ok to post it earlier than that.)
- Please answer parent/student questions that you receive by 4:00 each day.
- You will need to track attendance for each eLearning Day. Having at least one "task" for students to complete each day will be vital.
Tracking Attendance
Heather Jackson at DCHS created an attendance tracking form that she gave me permission to share so everyone doesn't have to create their own personal system. Please feel free to steal and use it if you haven't already made something. Each tab can be a separate class period or subject.
You can go to your IC grade book and highlight the names and copy them into the different tabs of the google sheet.

Each week, please go into the master attendance sheet shared by your building secretary. You may begin entering in your final attendance anytime after 11:59 P.M. on Tuesday. You may enter this attendance in on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please have attendance in by Friday and alert your attendance clerk if you are putting things in after this date.
Paper copies are due into buildings on Tuesdays. Secretaries/Principals will be scanning documents and emailing them to you once they are turned in. Attendance will be counted for students that turn in a paper copy with ANY attempt to complete work. (Again, this is for attendance, not grading.)

Zoom Videoconferencing Update
Good Morning,
As of April 2nd, the Waiting Room feature in our account will be automatically turned on by default to enhance the control that you have over your virtual classes. Going forward, you must admit your students to the virtual classroom.
How do I admit participants into my class?
It’s simple. As the host, once you’ve started the meeting, you’ll begin to see the number of participants in your waiting room within the Manage Participants icon. Next, select Manage Participants to view the full list. Then, you’ll have the option to admit participants individually by selecting the blue Admit button next to their name or all at once with the Admit All option on the top right-hand side of your screen.
How to Manage Your Waiting Room
Watch this 2-minute video breaking down how to manage participants. What’s more, read this blog post to learn how to secure your virtual classroom.

Important Updates from The Tech Department via Bill Rader a.k.a "Keep These Things on Your RADER" (get it?) :-)
Google Meet (Grid View)
Those of you using Google Meet for sessions with your students may find it helpful to see a grid view of your student's webcams. The tech dept will be deploying a chrome extension that will enable this functionality. Look for it in the upper right-hand corner of your Meet controls and click on it to allow grid view when on a session with multiple participants.
OneDrive File Transfers
MS and HS Staff who have requested immediate file transfers of your h: drive to your Onedrive should now be able to access the entire contents of your h: drive. If you asked for as soon as possible and have not yet signed into the portal, please do that by going to portal.office.com/onedrive and signing in using your school account info. Once you've done this, we can transfer your files. Everyone who chose to have these files copied as soon as we're able will soon see your files copied as well. Kyle Parker will reach out to each of you once your files have been transferred. Reminder, this allows you to access your "office" files on the Chromebook by using office.com.
Student Device Support Reminder
We're providing full support during this time for both staff and students. Staff should submit help tickets as normal, and students (or their parents) should send an email to ssc@danville.k12.in.us for assistance.
Google Passphrase
If you are prompted to change or add a google passphrase, please see this link for more information.
