US News and World Report Recognizes NFHS

The Nation = The BEST!

Message from Bob Carnaroli
Raider Nation,
Happy New Year!
We have gotten off to a great start this semester and are excited to celebrate all the great things we have to offer especially Graduation events for the Class of 2023.
In keeping with Safe, Thriving, and Connected NFHS, I need your HELP with Car Rider Line Drop Off and Pick Up in both the morning and afternoon. (see Map Graphic below). Please follow the traffic pattern set to keep the Car Rider Line moving, organized and especially SAFE!
There have been a few close calls lately in both of the tier lots (yellow on map). There is too much car and foot traffic with staff, students, visitors, and substitutes that park in those lots. Safety is being compromised with additional Drop Off/Pick Up vehicles. I know it seems easier and quicker to pull into those lots to drop off or pick up students, but I would ask that you avoid doing so as it's just not SAFE. We have considered gates and cones, to help block off those areas, but the configuration of the lots and traffic patterns don't allow for that to be possible. We will reassign a staff member to monitor those areas when available to make sure cars utilize the Car Rider Lanes. Please be patient and cooperative with the instructions of the staff member assigned there as they work to keep kids safe.
Ultimately, we need to rely on our great parents and families to stay consistent in maintaining the integrity of following the prescribed Car Rider Line Traffic pattern on a consistent daily basis. This is important for the safety of our students, staff, and visitors!

Revised School Safety Measures
New safety measures
We have taken additional measures to better ensure the safety of our school.
- For safety purposes we are manning doors that are unlocked for long durations for arrival.
- The front main doors will open at 7:00 am
- The bus ramp doors will open at 7:40 am
- Other arrival doors, including gym doors will open at 8:00 am
- All exterior doors in the school will be locked during and after school including the door next to the green house and the Auxiliary Gym lobby door. School personnel will ensure that those doors are opened during class change for students to transition through.
- Please help us by discussing with your child the importance of not propping exterior doors open under any circumstances, letting people in through exterior doors, nor coming into any school building outside of open door / school hours without a supervising staff member.
- Students found propping doors may be held accountable by a discipline consequence.
- Students found in any school building without a supervising staff member outside of open door/ school hours may be held accountable by discipline consequence and may be subject to trespassing charges.
We believe in doing everything in our power to help keep students and staff as safe as possible here at North High and appreciate your partnership to that end!

Class of 2023
Class of 2023 Parents/Guardians,
We are getting increasingly excited about celebrating your students over the next couple of months with all of the amazing activities planned for them. We wanted to touch base with our Raider Senior Families about important information and dates to make sure you were aware of everything going on for our 12th grade students.
Senior Letters:
We are restarting this amazing tradition at North Forsyth High School this year. The idea is that students will get to read letters collected from people that have had a profound impact on them over their childhood. We will collect letters between January 21st – April 28th, 2023. This is a hard deadline for letter collection because we will need ample time to sort letters. Letters can be dropped off in person, or mailed to the school directly. Specific directions on what can be sent and how to send letters can be found on our website here. Senior letters will be distributed to students at a later date in May.
Graduation Announcements:
Families can start ordering graduation announcements. These are a great way to share with family and friends that your student is graduating from North Forsyth High School on May 21st, 2023! Place your order today here.
Senior Dues:
Senior Dues must be paid in order for students to participate in the graduation ceremony at Gas South Arena on May 21st, 2023 at 2pm. Senior Dues cover the cost for cap/gown, the diploma/diploma cover, rental of the Gas South Arena, the Senior Picnic, and Senior Breakfast. Dues are $145 until January 31st. On February 1st, they will increase to $170 to incur a late fee. Please pay as soon as possible to ensure that your student will receive their cap/gown by the senior picnic in April. Dues must be paid online at 3rd Ascent.
Senior Week:
Senior Week will be held April 24th – April 28th. Cap and Gown Distribution will be held on Wednesday, April 26th during 2nd period and then students will head to Coal Mountain Field for the Annual Senior Picnic during Raider Time and Wellness.
May Dates:
Senior Final Exams will be held between May 8th and May 11th. This allows final grades to be submitted before graduation. All graduation requirements must be completed in order to participate in graduation.
Senior Awards Night is Invitation Only and will be held on May 16th. This night is to honor students that have been awarded academic based scholarships and a variety of school-based awards. It will be held in Raider Arena.
Senior Breakfast will be held at 9AM on Thursday, May 18th. We will provide food and drinks for students. We will also disburse graduation tickets and graduate parking passes with their regalia. During breakfast, we will go over expectations for graduation. If any student is unable to attend, the presentation will be available on the senior class news page and tickets/parking pass/regalia can be picked up in the front office after the breakfast.
Baccalaureate will be held on Thursday, May 18th at 6pm. It will be held at First Baptist Church Cumming. Graduates are expected to wear their graduation gown, but not their cap. This is an optional event. A reception will follow the short ceremony.
Graduation:
Graduation will be held at Gas South Arena at 2pm on Sunday, May 21st, 2023. All guests will need a ticket. Graduates will be given tickets and a student parking pass on the morning of the senior breakfast. Dress code and expectations will be shared on May 18th at Senior Breakfast.

ROTC Change of Command

ROTC Updates
It was a very busy and exciting week for MCJROTC. On Jan 11th command of Raider Battalion changed hands from Cadet Col Cheyene Hencely to Cadet LtCol Joel Unger. Col Hencely's leadership was invaluable during her tenure, and we look forward to cadet LtCol Unger's vision for the unit. Numerous other cadets were also promoted to higher positions during the ceremony. On Jan 12th the JROTC rifle team competed against the cadets of Riverside Military Academy and emerged victorious. The final score in the match was NFHS 1070 to Riverside's 983. The top shot for NFHS was David Matthews with 275.
On Friday, our Drill team traveled to Daniel Boone HS in Tennessee to compete against 25 other schools vying to bring home trophies (results in another update).
