STEM Friday - Nov 22
We will be having another STEM Friday on Nov. 22, please sign up for one of the following activities when you are in advisory next Tues:
- Science Olympiad - It's time to start preparing for the VT Science Olympiad Championships at UVM on Saturday, Mar 14. Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets, consisting of a series of up to 23 team events. Each year, a portion of the events are rotated to reflect the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering, and technology. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation. C114, Ms. Vanoli and Ms. O'Neil
- Math Madness - This online math competition has been going on since the beginning of the year. Math Office, Ms. McNamara.
- 3D printed hand build - We be building a prosthetic hand, the parts have been printed for us in the library maker space. The design was created by Enabling the Future, this is an amazing group of individuals from all over the world who are using their 3D printers to create free 3D printed hands and arms for those in need of an upper limb assistive device. We will be building a test hand, if the folks at Enabling the Future approve of our finished product, they will match us with a person who actually needs one of these devices and we will build it custom for them. D104, Mr. Horne
- Intro to Arduino Programming - This activity will show the potential of Physical Computing. This means writing code that has effects in the physical world. We will take a look at the Arduino, which is a programmable microcontroller that can read sensors and control motors and other devices. We will use a cloud-based app to write the code and download it to Arduino and see what happens. No experience required. Arduinos will be provided. Limited to the first 12 sign-ups. C211, Mr. Chase and Mr. Stapleton
- Science Fair prep - If you are interested in preparing a project for the VT State Science Fair on March 28, we are interested in helping you succeed. Join us for this brainstorming session, there should be additional follow up sessions throughout the year. C115, Dr. Walogorsky and Ms. Smith
