Roosevelt Wildcat Weekly
March 4th, 2022 Information for our Families
Dear Wildcat Families,
As a reminder, Wednesday, March 9th, will be a nonstudent day. All staff will be participating in professional development.
This week we completed our expectation presentations for our 6th and 7th graders. We are focusing on Being Respectful, Being Responsible, and Being Safe. Here are some key points from the presentations that we would love for you to reiterate with your student:
- Please keep your hands, feet, and belongings to yourself (We have seen a tremendous reduction in the amount of physical aggression on campus over the last three weeks. We are working on making sure every student keeps their hands, feet, and belongs to themselves, and understands that play fighting will not be tolerated on campus).
- Please pick up your trash and throw it away when you are done eating (Although this is getting better, students are still eating lunch and leaving their trash on the tables. We ask that you please remind your student to clean up after themselves).
- Cellphones must be turned off and put into backpacks once students enter the campus (This reduces distractions in class, helps to reduce students taking pictures and videos on campus, which is not allowed, and reduces the number of cell phones being misplaced)
- Be on time to class ( Please remind your student of the importance of getting to class on time).
Thank you for your continued support of our RMS family.
RMS Administration
Thanks to the parents who attended Coffee with the Principal last Tuesday. A very productive meeting with important information by the principal, Mrs. ZIlk, and the RMS counselors.

Lunch
Attendance is key to student success!
Remember, absences must be cleared within 72 hours (3 school days) after the student returns to school. If your student was accidentally marked absent or planning a trip in which your student will miss five or more school days, please notify the attendance two weeks in advance to set up an independent study contract.
ADVANCED ART "ACRYLIC MANDALAS" MRS. BRAYSHAW
Students studied mandalas from around the world and elements of radial design found in nature. Color theory was explored to practice various color schemes, tints, tones, and shades. Asymmetry and symmetry was utilized to come up with each vibrant design.
Our Wildcats enjoyed the great selection of books during our RMS Book Fair
Thank you, Ms. Bennet, our RMS librarian, for being so AWESOME!
Beginning Band Concert
We want to send a HUGE shoutout to Mr. Anderson for his amazing beginning band concerts last week. Students demonstrated their learning progression from how to hold an instrument, playing a single note, and playing an entire song. Mr. Anderson brings out the best in his students. We are so proud of him and our Wildcat band.

Health and Safety Update
As a school community, we need your help to ensure that we can safely keep students in school and minimize the number of quarantines we might need. If there is a family that is waiting on the results of COVID tests, please keep your student home until the results come in. If your student is not feeling well, please don't send them to school.
We will include a Health and Safety Update in each RMS Wildcat Weekly and we will notify you in this update if there have been any positive cases on campus. This week, we had 5 positive case on campus. If you would like to check for a notification on a daily basis, please refer to the VUSD COVID-19 Case Dashboard. The Dashboard is updated by 7:00 pm daily.
A few other reminders about protocols:
Notify us immediately if your child or any member of your household becomes ill with COVID-19.
Please keep your child home from school if they have ANY of the symptoms listed on the decision tree guidelines (fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea).
Have your child vaccinated. Remember, your child will not need to be quarantined if they come in close contact at school if they are fully vaccinated and asymptomatic. The vaccination will keep them in school and able to participate in all of the extracurricular activities like athletics, band, dance, ASB, etc.
If your child is quarantined, then they will receive support/connection with a VUSD Learning Support Teacher, via Zoom and email.
If your child is quarantined, they are to follow along in Canvas for their coursework.
If your child is fully vaccinated, they are NOT required to Quarantine at this time.

Independent Study Contracts Needed To Continue Learning During to Quarantine
The Vista Unified School District is committed to providing ongoing opportunities for students to continue their education and earn attendance credit while on quarantine. Currently, the state only allows districts to provide these opportunities through independent study, and parents/guardians must agree for their students to voluntarily participate. We need your help to sign a short-term independent study contract so that our schools can get the funding they need to maintain services for all students.
Currently, students on quarantine are marked with excused absences, but once parents/guardians approve for their student to participate in independent study during quarantine, the student will begin to generate positive attendance. Students enrolled in this short term independent study during periods of quarantine will have access to classroom content through Canvas, the district learning management system. Students can complete classroom assignments to stay current with the classroom learning and earn attendance credit. Keep in mind that when a student is marked absent, the school loses funding for that student for as long as they are absent.
Please, check your email from VUSD sent on September 24th for the personalized link. If you cannot find the email with the personalized link, please follow this link VUSD Independent Study Online Form to complete the form.
