Thunderblast Weekly

August 29, 2021

After watching the level of commitment our home team has towards not making the playoffs, I thought that would be an appropriate theme for the week. This year, we are committed to the following:

  • 5 days/ week in-person learning
  • Safe COVID protocols
  • Community Builders- including events, sports, clubs, and activities
  • Continuing to challenge our students academically
  • Meeting the mental health needs of our students and families
  • Learning from our mistakes
  • Making student-centered decisions

Hopefully you have witnessed examples under each of these categories or you will see them soon. We always appreciate your feedback and are committed to constantly improving.

COVID Mitigation

Locker areas and PE are looking good right now. Lunch was a focal point of concern during our coffee. We are able to get outside, but we will need your help. Many parents have signed up for this week already. Please consider joining us and helping to urge the students to clean up after themselves outside so we can keep the bees from having a busy fall.

Kiss and Ride

As buses will continue to get more efficient, please consider walking or riding the bus. The report from the neighborhood is that the back-up all the way towards South Cottage is worse than we have ever seen. If the walk zone is too far, we also have bike racks. I'm happy to purchase locks for anyone who needs them. Car pooling with friends is another great option. Some families will elect to arrive by 3:40 when the traffic is reduced considerably. Regardless of the best option for your family, if you are coming on campus, please be patient and positive.

Reporting an Absence

  • In Parent VUE- Reporting an Absence in ParentVUE (preferred option)

    • Please submit before 8:30am - Friendly reminder, after 8:30am the system automatically denies the request because attendance has been taken by a teacher and you will be notified.

  • Click here (don’t forget to put your child’s first and last name)

  • Call Attendance Line- 571-434-4422 (least preferred option)

Communication is going to be a top priority this year. That being said, we are trying something new. As a staff, we will be using Remind to text families about individual situations that affect your child. We will not be using Remind when assignments are due because it could become cumbersome to get so many texts. It will be used similar to phone calls with a very specific “reminder” so we can continue to partner together. See below.

September 11th- Patriot Day

Last year during Memorial Day, I wrote in the newsletter seeking information about how your family honors the holiday. I was pleased to be able to use your ideas in both the morning announcements and as part of our advisory lessons. Similarly, with Patriot Day around the corner, I am curious about your family traditions and possibly some stories you would like to share about this very difficult time.

PTO Tailgate

Thanks to all of you who helped make our first PTO event a huge success. We couldn’t have done it without all of your help and support. We had over 100 students attend, over a dozen volunteers, plenty of food and drink for all, games galore, and lots of fun! I'm sorry I didn't take more pictures.
