OLVCS Updates
Led By the Spirit.............................April 23, 2020
Good evening,
It is great to see that Spring is starting to emerge. The trees are ready to pop and flowers are everywhere.
There are so many ripples to the COVID pandemic, each week there seems to be something new to tackle.
One item that came to mind is our annual K -8 Memory Book. We were scheduled to take the group photos when we returned from Spring Break. As you know that didn't happen. Since the 2019-2020 school year will always be linked with remote/online learning, I thought why not make it a part of our Memory Book.
Our photographer agreed to let each of our families submit a photo of their children from their home classrooms. I am so excited for this Memory Book, it's is going to be awesome.
Details below about submitting a photo.
Also below, are details about grading for the 4th marking period.
Finally, Chapter 2 of Frindle is linked below. I have the next several chapters recorded, please go to our website and find them there.

Grading for the 4th Marking Period
GRADES
Core Subjects (K-8):
We will continue with our current grading scale at each level. We understand these grades are not necessarily indicative of student work during remote instruction, but in looking at other avenues of grading, we feel this is the best approach that will give meaning to the work students are completing and the efforts everyone is putting in, in support of students.
K - 8th Grade Specials:
S - = Satisfactory minus: student has checked in and completed a few assignments
S = Satisfactory: student has participated the majority of the lessons
S+ = Satisfactory Plus: student put forth an exceptional effort and completed the majority of assignments
Elementary 3 - 5 Science & Social Studies:
S - = Satisfactory minus: student has checked in and completed a few assignments
S = Satisfactory: student has participated the majority of the lessons
S+ = Satisfactory Plus: student put forth an exceptional effort and completed the majority of assignments
Engagement and Participation:
Students need to be engaged and participating in their remote learning courses. This would be evidenced by one or more of the following:
Zoom sessions
Completing assignments
Responding to emails
Any other course specific communication
Memory Book Photos: Submit a family photo today!
Please send a seperate email, the subject line with your family name. Send one photo with all your children, and parents too, if you like.

Woah, We're....a little more than.... Half Way There! And we are still Living on a Prayer!
Believe it or not this iconic Bon Jovi lyric is applicable to OLVCS--half of our OLVCS families have completed enrollment in SchoolAdmin for the coming school year and we are praying that more will do the same.
This process should only take a parent about 5-10 minutes per student. So, don’t delay, log in your family’s account at https://ourladyofvictory.schooladminonline.com/users/sign_in and complete the forms

Zoom Master Schedule
If a Zoom session will be added, either office hours, or homework help etc, you will receive an email from the teacher.
We will post both the master schedule and a weekly schedule on our website.

If you need help, please contact the office.
STS or FACTS? What’s the Difference? Does My Family Need To Have Both Accounts?
For the coming school year, OLVCS will be using BOTH online platforms, STS and FACTS. STS is being used for need-based financial aid applications and management. In contrast, FACTS will only be used for payments: tuition, ASAP and others (e.g. Walk-A-Thon donations). FACTS is NOT being used for financial aid applications.
So, while other Diocesan schools may no longer be using FACTS at all, OLVCS still will be. This is because STS does not provide at this time some of the payment options that our school families have come to expect, so we decided to keep with FACTS for payments for the time being.
So, does your family need to have accounts in both FACTS and STS? Here’s a table to help you decide:
- Want to apply for need-based financial aid? Yes: You need an STS Account
- Need to make tuition payments? Yes: You need a FACTS Account
Information about the STS application can be found at www.olvcatholicschool.org/sts and the application is due on May 15, 2020. Please feel free to contact the school office with any questions.
Zoom Etiquette:
Now that we will be Zooming for the end of the year, some tips that will help all:
- Please log on a few minutes before the meeting. You will be in a "waiting room"
- Please know how to mute/unmute.
- Please keep one background for the duration of the meeting.
- Please stay or have your child stay in one spot for the meeting.
- Please have your video on, if possible. **
- Please sit up and be engaged as you would be in class.
**If broadband issues occur, one way to help is turn video off. Also, many times our middle schoolers have their videos off, that could be a comfort issue. We are not going to force anyone to have their video on, but it makes for a more engaging lesson.
A Million Families...A Million Rosaries
From the Little Sisters of the Poor:
During Portugal’s 1974 Carnation Revolution Our Lady said to Sister Lucia,
“When a million families pray the rosary, the revolution will end.”
What if a million families joined hands NOW to pray the rosary for a cure to the coronavirus?
Please join us in praying the rosary everyday for an end to this pandemic!
Sign up below to join us and commit yourself and/or your family to imploring Our Lady
to intercede on behalf of all humanity at this moment of crisis.

The Box Tops Program has gone digital! Get the App and help OLV
You will need to get the BoxTops app on your phone, sign up indicating OLV as preferred school and then scan your store receipts.
- It is a very simple process to scan your receipt.
- The app will automatically determine if your receipt contains BoxTops products and will give the school credit for the purchases.
If you are not sure if you purchased any BoxTops products, you can still scan your receipt and the app will just state that there are no eligible products. There are ongoing promotions and sweepstakes in the app as well that will earn the school additional money.
