Veterinary Medicine

Dont forget your medicine!

Medicine is a huge part of an animals life.

There is a lot to becoming a veterinarian and understanding the things to maintain a healthy treatment for the animal. If you do not keep up with your pets health then it may get sick or start to carry a bad disease. Yet the schooling may take a long time to finish, in the end it is rewarding for the people and animals you are going to help and care for. Some of the medications for your animal, vets know about and studied in their career so do not feed your animals any medications until you have contacted your nearest vet clinic.

Animals can obtain very bad diseases and sicknesses.

Vet medicine deals with the diseases of animals and their sicknesses. There are a lot of ways animals can get sick and sometimes we do not know. "Their work is also valuable because many animal diseases can be transmitted to human being" (World Book Advanced 2014). Medicine is just as important to human beings as well as animals.

The schooling to become a vet.

"The path to becoming a veterinarian is not a short one. At minimum, veterinarians must obtain doctoral degrees from accredited schools of veterinary medicine," (Joyner).

OSU is a good college to go to study to become a veterinarian. There is a part of OSU on the COCC campus in Bend and you can transfer to OSU college in Corvallis when needed. In the most part, it takes about 8 and 1/2 years to complete. That includes pre-vet schooling and then you go into the real vet school. The additional training usually lasts 2-3 years.

Some medicines for pets.

“Many people don’t realize that a medicine that’s safe for people may not be safe for dogs or cats, or that a dose that is safe for people may not be safe for their pets,” says Melanie McLean (Pain Medicines for Pets [PMP]). Some of these medications you need to know when working in the animal medicine field. Medications for horses consist of Boldenone, Butorphanol and Medications for dogs and cats are Buprenorphine for cats, Carprofen for both and Cefovecin for both. There are a lot of medications for animals and most animals need the current check up/ treatment. “You should always check with your veterinarian first before giving your animal any kind of medication, prescription or over-the-counter,” says McLean (PMP)

Medication is a helpful part of animals life.

The sicknesses even dogs can get, may be able to transmite to you. So the first sign you see of a sickness could help your whole household. Vet clinics are the place you should go to when curious or worried of your loved ones. Know that every veterinarian is smart is their own ways. They have gone through a lot of schooling just so that your pet is healthy and in the best shape possible. Never feed your pet medication you are unsure about. Contact your local vet clinic for further questions.
