SUEP Launched new program – Alagad
Alagad is a new program under the Silliman University Extension Program. Alagad was launched on June 20, 2015, through a benefit fun run and walk for volunteerism. Over 1,600 students, faculty members, staff and friends of the university attended the launching. Proceeds from the fun run and walk is for the benefit of the Kaugmaran Child Development Centers (KCDC) in Siaton, Negros Oriental.
ALAGAD was envisioned to heighten and itensify the volunteer initiatives which have been undertaken at Silliman University over the years. One of the key goals in the ALAGAD is to systematically plan and implement a sustainable volunteer program involving university administrators, faculty members, staff, students, and alumni.
A capability building workshop for volunteers was held last August 11, 2015, at the Multi-Purpose Room, IMTC. Following the workshop, there was a forum volunteerism with the theme "Volunteerism and Whole Person Education". The resource speaker was Dr. Eric S.M. Talens of Ugnayan ng Pahingod of the University of the Philippines-Manila. Students, faculty members and friends of Silliman University attended the forum.
Alagad is in support to Silliman University’s pursuit of Whole Person Education. While students learn in the classroom, (athletic) court, cultural (center) activities, church, volunteerism in communities provides real-world knowledge, thus develops social responsibility and people-oriented mindset.
