GES Family Update

Open House Update
Wow! I am always amazed at the participation of our families and community at open house. In all grades, Kindergarten-4th grade, we had less than 30 students that were not able to attend! That is about 96% attendance for the event. Thank you for taking the time to meet your child's teacher and more importantly, communicate to your family the importance of school.
Your child's teacher is the main point of contact and they can answer all of your questions regarding GES.
GES Last Reminders
I think this is the last bit of information/reminder for the first day of school in addition to the Family Updates that were sent the last couple of weeks or so.
Kindergarten and 1st grade will come in door 13.
2nd grade will come in door 11 or 12 depending on the teacher.
3rd and 4th grade will come in door 11 or 12 depending on the teacher.
All drop off children should use door 15. It makes sense for you to walk them to the playground side of the school for the first few days, though.
Also, please remind your child that the playground is closed during arrival because our number 1 priority is to get all children in the building efficiently and safely by 7:40. All students will have an opportunity to play at 2 recesses during the school day.
Doors open at 7:30... see you then!

The First Days of School
I think everyone remembers the anticipation, nervousness, and excitement the first day of school brings! Even the teachers and staff at GES feel those big emotions. We all plan our outfits, set aside extra time in the morning to plan lunch, and we remember who we are excited to reconnect with from the summer break.
My reminder for all of you is to have patience, give us Grace, and expect there to be some tears and fear of the unknown. The parking lot will be very full, the busses will not have the timing of the drop-off dialed in just yet, and our 5-10 year olds will be worried about not knowing where they are supposed to go. All staff will be outside helping, please respect the work they are doing for the safe arrival of your children.
The reminder is the same for the end of the day. The routine is not in place yet and there will be some confusion for children until those routines are habit. Please be respectful to the adults at all times. We have a very organized structure to ensure a safe dismissal. The instructions they give you are to manage a lot of car and foot traffic and were developed with local law enforcement and directed by me. Please ask any adult questions that you may have.

HASD Switch to Google
Over the summer, the HASD switched to the Google platform for our workspace. This includes Gmail. While I appreciate the benefits of the transition (from Microsoft Teams and Outlook), I am sorry to report, that some of your emails may have been overlooked, landed in Spam or promotions, or just missed due to pilot error. I do have everything resolved on my end and please know that moving forward, my expectation for myself and staff is to respond to you within 24 hours. If for some reason you do not get a response, please call the school for clarification. Our school to home communication is critically important for student success!
