Mustang Memo
April 24-28, 2023
Principal's Message
Spring in Nebraska! This chilly weather does not stop Mustangs from enjoying all the JOY the Easter season brings! We once again proclaim, “Alleluia!” We are called to fully open ourselves up to the mystery of the resurrection by our daily acts to take up Jesus’ love, care, and empathy for others. For the fifty days of Easter, may we reach out to others as we live Jesus’ risen life.
During these (chilly) spring days, MOQ students are working hard in their studies, STAR testing, enjoying spring sports, preparing for the Talent Show and concerts and so much more! It is a busy time filled with many blessings. We look forward to our May Crowning procession on May 5th when our community will come together to honor our Blessed Mother and many wonderful volunteers. (Volunteers, please help us prepare for our Volunteer Mass/Brunch by submitting your RSVP by May 1st HERE.)
This week we will celebrate the Joy of Giving event with a Color Run on Wednesday. Thank you to everyone for donating to this important event. Funds raised will support tuition assistance and our Specials programs. (Click HERE for more information or to make a donation.) Please read the Color Run article below for more information about the event at MOQ.
In gratitude,

STAR 360 Testing
This week students in Grades 1 and 2 will be taking the STAR 360 Reading and Math assessment tests. Kindergarten students will take the Early Literacy STAR test. Kindergarten and first grade students will be testing in small groups throughout the week. The second grade testing schedule is listed in the above calendar. It is very important that students are properly prepared to do their very best on the tests. Valid and accurate test results assist us in evaluating curriculum, instructional materials and student needs. Please be sure students get a good night’s rest, eat breakfast and come to school ready to take the test. Please avoid making any appointments during the scheduled testing times.
MOQ Color Run and Joy of Giving Day
Help us celebrate the Joy of Giving Day with the Omaha Archdiocese on April 26th. Our goal is to raise $10,000 (about $20/student). To celebrate our participation in Joy of Giving, the students will participate in a Color Run on April 26th at 2:30 PM. The MOQ Color Run will be a short campus walk/run and students will have the opportunity to be doused with different colors of powder. Every student who raises $20 or more will receive an entry to win a signed 2023 Creighton Basketball, tickets to a Creighton Basketball game (2023/24) or other Creighton memorabilia.
To make a donation, please click donation link HERE or scan the QR Code. The early donation window opened on April 10th and will remain open through Joy of Giving Day on April 26th. Every donation allows MOQ to be eligible for additional prize money. Thank you in advance for supporting this day. To learn more about the MOQ School's Joy of Giving, visit HERE.
Color Run FAQs
What should my child wear? White T-shirt, shorts, sunglasses. If you think your child will have sensitivity to the Color Run powder, make sure to send a bandana for him/her to wear over his/her mouth and nose, especially if your child has asthma and allergies.
Are the colors safe? Colors are made of corn starch and FD&C and/or D&C colors. Color safety information: Approved for use in foods, cosmetics and/or drugs. These products are not considered hazardous.
How do I remove the color powder? It's easiest to remove while it's still dry (shake, wiggle, jump up and down, vacuum, etc.). After that, soap and water with a little rinse and repeat action will do the trick.
Blow-off stations will be located by the playground “Dome."
Should I bring anything else to remove the powder? Bring towels to place in your car so students don’t shake color powder all over the interior that will need to be cleaned up later. Most excess powder can simply be shaken off and will wash out of clothing.
Can parents/siblings attend? Parents and siblings are welcome to come and watch the students move through the course but cannot participate in the Color Run. We ask that all visitors who attend line the fence around the soccer field.
Progress Reports
Progress Reports will be emailed to parents on Wednesday. We have five weeks remaining in the 2022-23 school year. Thank you for your support to help our students stay committed and focused on doing their very best. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions.
School Safety
The changing weather caused some delays in our safety drill hopes for this past week. That said, we hope to double-up this next week with two: a fire drill and a “Hold” drill. The fire drill is just a normal drill but becomes more complicated as we begin to add our preschool students to our drill. We try to do these with and without preschool students in the event we need to move both buildings…or not.
The “Hold” drill is a new directive this year. In the past we called it a “Lockout” drill. By using the SRP, we are changing with the larger community so all of our community partners (fire and police) are on the same page. This is the drill where we clear the hallways and remain in our rooms until an all clear is given. However, with this drill we can continue to work as usual in our classrooms.
As always, if you see something, say something–we are always ready to be better at safety. If you have questions, please call. Thank you for your help and cooperation.

Extended Care News
The May Calendar is available. There is a noon dismissal on Wednesday, May 3, and Friday, May 12. Be sure to send lunch with your child(ren) on May 3rd and 12th. Please note there is no afternoon care on the last day of school, May 25th. Filling out the calendar helps us plan while ensuring you the lowest rates. If you need to add or delete a date, email extendedcare@moqschool.org. Please do not submit a new calendar.
Important Summer Care Information: We have CLOSED registration for Summer Care!! Please note that your Extended Care account on FACTS must be current before the first day of Summer Care.
As I am receiving my staff schedules for the summer, I have noticed two dates in the summer that we will need to cancel care. We will no longer be offering care on Monday, July 24, and Tuesday, July 25. There are state regulated student to staff members ratios that we have to follow, and with the number of staff members I have scheduled for those two dates, we will not be within those ratios. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. I have rescheduled Monday's field trip of Wildlife Encounters to Friday, July 14, at 2:00 p.m. For those who have already paid for the summer in full, I will be crediting your FACTS account. Please check your account this week, and let me know if you do not see your credit for July 24th and 25th.
