HERMAN E. DUMMER NEWSLETTER
OCTOBER, 2017
A MESSAGE FROM MRS. FORD
We've made it through our first full month of school! The students have done amazingly well and should all be in their routines. Beginning of the year testing has been completed and ALL students have been placed in intervention groups according to their needs. This is a special time set aside each day where students can get their academic needs met. Teachers will touch base with you on your child's progress, but please know that you may contact your child's teacher at any time with questions or concerns. This is also a very busy time for students and their extra-curricular activities. Please keep in mind the routines and expectations of your child's teacher/classroom/school and help your child to set goals and routines that will help make them successful. A unified front between school and home does wonders in the education of a child.
Safety drills have been taking place here at Dummer. The students are learning to be prepared in case of fire, disaster, bus emergencies, intruder, and bomb threats. By mid-October, your student should have had, at the very least, one practice drill for each emergency with more planned in the future months. Please talk with your child about these safety practices and make a plan for home as well. We never know when a disaster may strike, but we can be proactive and have a plan in place. On another safety note, please make sure we have your up-to-date address and phone number. We have had instances where we need to contact a parent/guardian and our information was incorrect.
Sincerely,
Lynette Ford

NEWS FROM OUR NURSE
FABULOUS 4TH GRADE
In Math we are working on multiplication. Make sure your child is working on memorizing the facts!! This makes everything we do in math so much easier.
In Reading we have been working on making inferences and supporting answers with information from the text. This is an important skill that will be worked on all year. Many classes have begun their first novel study as well.
In Science all classes are either working on or will soon begin working on the magnets and electricity unit. This is always a favorite. To conclude this unit each child will create a project to display their knowledge of circuits. The big electricity projects will be due at the beginning of December. Watch for more information from your child's teacher soon.
