Wallace Weekly

December 7th - December 11th

Weekly Recap

Ten jam-packed, busy days ahead! Organization will be key in your meeting the deadlines placed before you. You are a critical part of our team.

I realize there have been a number of changes this year in RISD…FOCUS, IStation, updated curriculum guides, PBMAS monitoring forms/red folders, and the list goes on and on……

At Wallace, we are fortunate to have a phenomenal group of professionals committed to not only the academic growth of all students, but to their social development as well. We believe in you.

“Total teachers, we propose, are most likely to emerge, develop, and prosper in total schools, in schools which value, develop, and support the judgement and expertise of all their teachers in the common quest for improvement.” ~What’s Worth Fighting For In Your School? (Fullan, Hargreaves)

At Wallace, we are fortunate to have superb support systems in place through instructional content specialists, resource teachers, and ESL teachers. It takes a village with our diversity and wide range of needs. We have so much to share and so much to learn.

“Effective collaborations operate in the world of ideas, examining existing practices critically, seeking better alternatives and working hard together at bringing about improvements and assessing their worth.” ~What’s Worth Fighting For In Your School? (Fullan, Hargreaves)

At Wallace, we have a very difficult but very rewarding job…success for all students. The time you spend studying student history, performing detailed analysis on assessments, and planning instruction to fit each child’s needs matters. We work tirelessly.

At the end of the day, you must take care of yourself before you can take care of others. Work hard when you are at work and know that rest is on its way in 10 days.

“Balancing the work and the life is an important protection against burnout. It also leads to more interesting teachers and more interesting teaching.” ~What’s Worth Fighting For In Your School? (Fullan, Hargreaves)

We know it’s been an extremely busy past few weeks. We recognize your hard work and dedication. Thanks for all you do each and every day!

SCRATCH will be rescheduled for some time next semester

Due to all of the events and requirements that December brings, there was not enough of a response to go forward with the SCRATCH staff development on December 7th. I will let you all know when I have any more information about when it will be rescheduled.

Spotlight on...

Who knew that ratios could be fun to learn about?!

Katie and Jessie did a great job making their ratios lesson hands on and interactive today. Students analyzed the difference in the concentration on color in cups with different rations of food coloring to water. Students were excited to participate, and were able to make clear connections to the content. Katie did a wonderful job using various instructional strategies to reach all of her learners, especially SPED and ELL students, including use of painter's tape to make double number lines and ratio comparison models, real life connections to the content, and frequent connections to the vocabulary with emphasis and clarification when needed. Way to go ladies!

Enrichment Clusters...the logistical BEAST!

Taffetta, thank you so much for all of the time and energy that you have put into organizing clusters. After many headaches and moments of delirious laughter, the hard part is over. Now it's time to enjoy the fun times that will be taking place in the classrooms over the next five cluster days!
