Sweeney Todd
by Michelle Guzman
On Tuesday February 12th, the students at San Antonio High School went to go see a play at Sonoma State University. It was a musical called Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. There were also a lot of other students from different schools there to see the play as well. The students in Mrs. Cecchini’s 6th period music appreciation class were watching the film version of the musical starring Johnny Depp. It was about a barber named Sweeney Todd who returned home to London to get revenge on the men who ruined his life 15 years ago. He ends up committing a lot of murders with the help of his business associate Mrs. Lovett. The musical itself was really good. The actors all did a fantastic job and the audience could tell they were committed to their characters. The background contributed to the mood, and the “special effects” really added to the whole experience. Although the singing was hard to hear at times, overall they were all really talented. Despite it being about a murderer, the musical at times could be quite funny. Since it was a long play, there was a lot of time spent sitting but there was a short intermission so that people could get up, stretch their legs, and go to the bathroom. All in all, it was a fun field trip and an interesting experience. After the play Mrs. Cecchini and Ms. Morilla got pizza for everyone who went on the field trip since they didn’t get a chance to eat. Everyone was extremely grateful and it was gone in seconds. Overall, it was a great way to start the week.
Tree Art Project
by Jonathan Vargas
During the month of January, Ms. Garcia's Art II class completed a tree drawing project. The students used different types of linework, types of shadings and also perspective. After students completed completed the project they had to write a reflection. They wrote about their process of starting and completing the drawing. They wrote about their linework, craftsmanship, shading and more. For their linework they used 2b pencils and for shading they used charcoal. Ms. Garcia asked the students what they learned that would be for the outside world. I learned to look at anything in a more indepth way, such as the way tree branches are grown apart, the way in which light hits things and gives it a shadow, and just small things in general. Everyone in the class got an A on the drawing and Ms. Garcia said that they earned it.
San Antonio Basketball
Mr. Smith says the team is improving with each game.
Upcoming games will be February 27 and March 13.
They will take a field trip to Sacramento to play at Golden 1 Center and watch the Sacramento Kings vs. Boston Celtics.

Anger
Anger is as red as hitting every red light when you’re late.
It happens when I’m frustrated and I feel like there’s hot steam coming out of my ears.
It sounds like a million car horns going off in my head, deaf to the outside world.
Anger.

Sadness
is like the black ink from a broken pen
It happens when your plans get canceled and when when you
Loose your favorite pair of shoes
It sounds like when you hear a kitten cry and when you hear thunder
up in the sky
This is sadness

Comfort
Comfort is blue like the sky on a warm summer day
It happens when you’re embraced in a hug
And when you come home and smell fresh baked cookies, and feel the warmth on your face
It sounds like the pages turning of your favorite book
And the very beginning of your favorite song
And the voices of your loved ones

Petaluma's Women's March
by Zoe Nicol
On January 19th an organization called Indivisible Petaluma put together Petaluma’s own Women’s March. It was held at Walnut Park in downtown Petaluma. Not only was there a march held in Petaluma, but there were women’s marches across the country. At Walnut Park there were speeches by many empowered women. The speakers included the three new members of the Petaluma School Board, Mady Cloud, Joanna Paun, and Caitlin Quinn. They spoke passionately about their experiences and concerns about many topics which included: women’s rights, Black Lives Matter, immigration, the government shutdown, the LGBTQ community, and human rights. They advocated for equal rights for everyone no matter a person’s gender, race, ethnicity or sexual orientation. Also, they wanted schools to give equal rights to all students and not let certain groups be discriminated against. After the speeches the participants walked down Kentucky Street and around downtown, ending back at Walnut park. The Women’s March and movement was significant because it is a great step toward equality for all.
Spirit Week
The week of February 11th was a Spirit Week. It was kicked off with Monday being a holiday, so there will be no school. Then, Tuesday the 12th was a dressy day due to the fact that there was be a field trip to go see Sweeney Todd the Musical. Wednesday the 13th was a sports day where people wore their favorite sport team’s apparel. There was also be a basketball game that day. Thursday the 14th, Valentine’s Day, was 90s day. To finish off the week, Friday the 15th was pajama day. The spirit day ideas were brought up by the Writer’s Workshop class students. They wanted to do more fun things while in school that would boost school spirit. All together they came up with various ideas for spirit days and these were their favorites. The idea to make it a spirit week was brought about by the teachers during one of their meetings.
