President's Update
9 (school) days until summer break!
A huge thank you to Becca Shaw for coordinating the Spring Orchestra Bake Sale benefiting this year's 5th Grade Class! Thanks to Becca's efforts, along with Bake Sale bakers, volunteers and everyone who purchased baked goods during the sale, $495 will go towards the 5th Grade Celebration end of year party!
Even though the school year is winding down, it's quite possibly the busiest time of year for teachers and families. Good luck to everyone as we finish out these last few days of the 2018-19 school year!
Have a great week,
Lindsay Stadler

Summer Reading
Have you heard of the “summer slide”?
The summer slide is a decline in reading ability and other academic skills that can occur over the summer months when school isn’t in session. Numerous studies show that kids who don’t read during summer vacation actually slip in reading ability by the time autumn rolls around.
Here’s the secret to preventing the summer slide: Keep learning all summer long. In other words, strive to provide learning opportunities throughout the summer to keep kids’ academic skills sharp.
Click HERE for a list of ideas to help you put an end to the summer slide!
New Family Mentor Program Volunteers Needed
McKinley's New Family Mentor Program connects existing McKinley families with families new to McKinley with the goal of welcoming new families to the school as well as providing a resource for information and questions throughout the school year.
In order to make this program successful, we are in need of veteran McKinley families to volunteer to be mentor families this year. The time commitment is minimal and the impact is lasting. Please consider becoming a Mentor Family by contacting Paige Brown at brownpa@wauwatosa.k12.wi.us
