The Paw Print
Burke County Public Schools - Home of the Bears
Can you guys BELIEVE we have gotten through yet another successful week? Fun fact: today celebrates the first day of fall, so maybe even the Earth's revolution is celebrating how successful our school year has been thus far by giving us a fun way to celebrate this fine Wednesday! Who knows?
Anyways, we are proud of all of our students for continuing to work hard throughout all of their classes and representing the school district! Our students sure are #BearBuilt!
The Paw Print can be viewed every 2nd and 4th Wednesday. The newsletter features sports updates, events in the community, and fun activities for the family... so stay tuned!

NURSES CORNER
Each Monday, we provide a report disclosing the number of positive COVID-19 cases within our school system. This report can be easily located on the homepage of our district website, www.burkeschools.org or by clicking on the image above.
The Delta Variant is continuously on the rise so we continue to require our students and staff to wear their masks in and out of the building.Vaccines are the most efficient way to keep our community safe.
As always, remain washing hands frequently, social distancing when possible, and staying home when you are not feeling well. Stay safe, Burke County!

National Day Calendar
Burke County Families can celebrate this holiday-packed day by walking or riding a bike to the zoo and making elephant noises in front of the Elephant Exhibit, and then buying a white chocolate-flavored ice cream cone. After walking back home from the zoo, you can host a girls' night where all you do is read Harry Potter books, then watch a Harry Potter movie marathon - that would not be complete without writing in your diary about your favorite scenes!
Fun fact: I love writing in my diary, especially while snacking on white chocolate. Writing in a diary is a great way to let off steam after a hard day or even appreciate what happened in a good day! I implore that all of you try it, just for the sake of the holiday! (Jada Curd, BCHS Junior)
Word of the Day
We challenge you all to use this word as many times as you can this week, extra points if you use it in the right context, EVEN MORE points if you have to explain to somebody what it means!

100th Bird Dog Cycling Event to be Held in Burke County
Gravel cycling enthusiasts will be coming from as far away as Nebraska and Iowa to compete along the gravel and dirt roads in Burke County. The Chamber is looking forward to welcoming approximately 300 participants who will travel here for the BIRD DOG 100 which is being hosted by Cycling Quests. The first annual event is scheduled for Saturday, November 6th and guests will be here for the majority of the weekend. We will be encouraging the out of town guests to shop and dine in our local establishments and will be offering chamber members the opportunity to provide coupons to help lure the potential customers to your place of business. We will also be looking for volunteers for registration/welcome tables, as well as working the rest stops during the ride on Saturday. Please contact us if you are interested!
Chamber to Relocate Office
The Burke County Chamber of Commerce Office will soon have a new home and it will be located right inside the front doors of the Burke County Historic Courthouse. We are excited about the central location on Liberty Street and look forward to utilizing the large foyer as a showcase for our community. We expect to use this space to welcome large numbers of newcomers and visitors to our area throughout the year. We will be offering chamber members the opportunity to put brochures or business cards in the lobby to promote your business or organization. Plans are to move in the last week in October and officially open our doors on Monday, November 1st.

Blackboard - notifications
The Blackboard mass notification system is useful to BCPS families and our faculty/staff because of its ability to deliver district-level and school-specific notifications.
The school system and schools use your student's information in Power School to send email, phone calls, text messages, and emergency notifications to families.
