Summit SPARKS News
APRIL 2020
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Summit Road STEM Families,
As you were previously notified, RCS will be closed until at least May 1st per the Governor’s directive for K-12 schools. In order to continue the educational opportunities for students during this extension, we will be rolling out the following items to assist students in maintaining their academic skills.
(A) Paper packets will be offered to students. They will be set up in dispensing machines in the bus loop of Summit Elementary along the curb of the parking lot we share with the high school. (back loop) Each machine will be labeled with the grade level packet they contain and will be available beginning Wednesday, April 8th at 8:00 AM and will continue to be available 24/7 to accommodate busy schedules. Please only take ONE packet per child so we make sure we have enough for those that need it.
(B) We will also have Chromebook distribution on Wednesday April 8th and only on Wednesday April 8th. This is being done for safety and to limit staff exposure. Families will come during their assigned time:
8:00-11:00 AM for families last name initial A-L
12:00-3:00 PM for families last name initial M-Z
PLEASE COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING SURVEY by noon on Monday, April 6, 2020 to assist us in meeting your “At Home Learning” needs.
If you requested a Chromebook from the above survey, upon arrival on April 8th, please follow the directions on the signs to maintain safe social distancing of 6 feet. (For safety reasons, please bring your own pen) Once the needed paperwork is signed you will receive your assigned chrome book and a charger. Due to availability we will be providing only ONE CHROMEBOOK PER FAMILY if needed.
We will NOT be collecting previously distributed packets at this time. We will collect all paperwork and distributed technology at one time upon return to school. Information about technology sign-in procedure will come closer to May 1st.
Please note that whether you request packets, technology, or a combination of both, give yourself and your child some grace. Per the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, instruction occurring at home for children should be only 1-2 hours a day. In addition, they encourage at least one hour a day of outside or recreational time for students, following social distancing requirements of course. This is a new experience for all of us. We do know that together not only do we SPARK, but we can do anything!
Your child’s teacher(s) will continue to be the main point of contact for any questions you may have during this time. Teachers are on call each day during regular school hours to assist however they can. They have worked hard to provide meaningful content and lessons to help students maintain all the skills they have worked so hard to gain. We miss our students but feel confident that maintaining the closure of schools is the best thing to do right now to keep them safe. For technical issues surrounding a borrowed Chromebook, our district help desk is in operation and can be reached at (614) 367-1031 or by email at helpdesk@reyn.org. We know this is an interesting and challenging time and we are here to help!
