Principal's Message
Skyline K-8 Community,
Happy Friday! This week our students met in family groups on Friday. Family groups are such a wonderful opportunity for our middle school students to serve as leaders to our elementary students. It is nice to see how excited both the teachers and students are for the family group activities. Our Skyline community is amazing!
On Thursday we participated in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill. Our students and staff took the drill seriously. Please compliment your child(ren) at home for being so awesome!
If you have not signed up for conferences yet, please sign up for conferences on November 19th and 20th. I encourage you to meet with specialists in addition to classroom teachers. We only have about 60% of our families signed up for conferences.
Have a great weekend!

Counselor's Corner
Did you know that Skyline has some amazing resources supported by our community and PTA? Every year, Skyline parent volunteers organize our “Giving Tree” for families who need a little extra help for the holidays. This program provides some much-needed help with presents and food for winter break. While it helps families in need, the program also provides students with a lesson in caring for our community. I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our community and blessed to see what it means to families.
Parent volunteers provide another helpful service to families through our weekly backpack program. Thanks to donations of time and food, students are able to take home a backpack of kid-friendly foods for the weekend. We know that a lot of students rely on schools for breakfast and lunch during the week. The backpack program helps families fill in that gap over the weekend. If you or anyone you know might benefit from these programs please let me know.
The backpack program could use some help with monthly food pickups from the food pantry. Pick up is at the Sunshine Pantry on 10895 SW 5th Ave, Beaverton Or. 97005. Their regular hours are 11 AM to 2 PM but special arrangements for pick up can be made with the pantry manager Jared via text to 503-841-9418. Volunteers can sign up at the link here: sign up genius.
On another note, when you are going through your children’s used clothing, please consider the needs of our health room. Children visit the health room when they have accidents and often clothes and shoes are not returned. Anything that is donated to the health room that is not needed will be forwarded to the PTA clothing closet.
Have a great week,
Amy Gervais

IB Corner
Today we started a new Mix-it-up Lunch with the 2nd-5th-grade students. There are 10 tables in the cafeteria and when student enter for lunch they pull a stick with a number on it. They then will go and sit at that table for lunch. This allows students to have opportunities to sit with students from other classes as well as other grades. It also helps with many behavioral problems that we have been having during the 2nd-5th-grade lunch.
Today was our first day and as true IB learners, we as a whole lunch group of students and teachers reflected on how we thought it went. The results were about 75% positive and the rest split between not one way or the other and not liking it at all. We will continue this lunch process for next week and see how things go!
Please ask your student about what they thought of it.
Here are some pictures of all the 10 tables at lunch today!

TAG Information
TAG Nomination forms are still available but must be submitted by November 30th at the very latest. I, unfortunately, I will not be able to take any forms that have been submitted after that date. t would be a great idea to talk with your child's teacher at conferences if you have any academic questions as well. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any further questions or need any supports with the forms.

Confessions of a Foundation/PTA
We know many of you were shocked at the Foundation/PTA fundraising goal of $135,000, unveiled at Back to School night, but we're going to let you in on a little secret.........Skyline has raised money like this before! In past years we have raised anywhere from $100,000 to $120,000! We just did it quietly, behind the scenes. This year we are being upfront and LOUD! We are small, but we are mighty! And when all of us work together, we can do BIG things. So don't be intimidated by these large numbers. Remember that the numbers break down to $500 / family or a monthly recurring donation of $42 / month, but we will take anything you are willing to give!
Every dollar helps us build and support a community and a learning environment that are AMAZING for our kids! We only get ONE chance to educate our kids and we need to do it right the FIRST time. So show your kids that you believe education is important and that you are investing in them!

We promise to keep you informed of our fundraising status via the Skyline newsletter and using our amazing new Feed the Eagle sign! So far we have raised $3574!! Our thanks to all the families who have committed to recurring donations for this year, or who have written cheques. You are Feeding the Eagle!! THANK YOU for partnering with us!
Sincerely,
Your friendly neighborhood Foundation and PTA
Bella Organic Farm's Corn Maze
It's officially fall & Skyline is selling tickets to Bella Organic Farm's CORN MAZE. Tickets are $8/adults, $6/kids 6-12, $6/seniors 65+ and kids 5 and under are free (no ticket needed for littles). When we've sold as many tickets as we can, Bella splits the costs with us so our PTA makes 50% on every ticket!
The corn maze tickets can be used any day from now through October 31. (Please note they recommend avoiding the middle two weekends in October, tickets won't let you skip a line, these tickets are for the regular corn maze - not the haunted maze)
Use this link to purchase tickets via PayPal. I'll make sure you get your tickets by sending home with your oldest child, or whatever method is convenient. Please contact me if you have a specific request. Thanks for supporting our school and community!
