Since we are still receiving winter weather please be sure your child is ready with appropriate outdoor clothing each day. It is important as we come into the spring months that students dress in layers because the weather can be unpredictable.

At OCS, our motto is to be safe, responsible and respectful. That motto is continually reinforced and we even have pop up school-wide celebrations to celebrate our accomplishments toward positive behavior. Currently, staff are reading The Power of Our Words and the Joyful Classroom from Responsive Classroom to continue our professional development towards social/emotional learning and multi-tiered systems of behavior. Staff reinforce the Toolbox curriculum to provide students with tools to use in the classroom when they are feeling dysregulated. At a Title I night in February we taught families how to use Toolbox strategies to take control of emotions in and out of school. The home school connection is a valuable part of student learning. We hope you will join us for our next Title I Writing Night on Wednesday, March 22nd.

We are excited that we most recently celebrated Read Across America with activities planned each day to promote reading. From February 24th through March 10th our students read 44,155 pages as a school. We are so proud of our students for all their dedication and hard work!

As you all know safety is our top priority at OCS. Due to some recent training we have received as a staff we have made some changes that your child may have told you.

One change is that all classroom doors are in the locked position and shut. Doors had always been in the locked position but they had been left ajar and open on occasion. Now each classroom has a system for students who leave and need to re-enter the classroom.

Another change is during parent drop off in the morning. We are asking parents to wait to let their child out of the car until they are up to the front.
