Virtual Learning Days

New this year, VBCPS has decided to incorporate Virtual Learning Days into our calendar to make-up days lost during Hurricane Florence. Those three days will be October 8, November 6, and January 28. On those days, students will not come to school but will learn at home. During a two week window around those days, teachers in grades K-5 will send home a task for students to accomplish at home. This new initiative is an exciting way to make up school!

Progress Reports

Progress reports will be issued for all students in 1st through 5th grades on October 9th. New this year, progress reports will be issued via email. If for some reason you do not receive your child's progress report, please reach out to the teacher, and he/she will send home a printed copy.

October is Disability Awareness Month

In October and every day, students with differences should be recognized and celebrated. It is our differences that make our world amazing! October is Disability Awareness Month. This is a great time to talk with children about disabilities and how we can all be accepting of others.

Literacy Corner

All students K-5 are encouraged to read 20 minutes each night to help with reading stamina. Students can read aloud to parents or to themselves. Also, parent read aloud are a great way to increase fluency and vocabulary. Need assistance with comprehension while reading fiction and non-fiction? The below bookmarks are great tools while reading each night. Happy Reading!

PTA Membership - Why Join the PTA?

PTA is the oldest and largest child advocacy association in America. Today's PTA is comprised of 5 million parents, teachers, grandparents, caregivers, foster parents and other caring adults who share a commitment to improving the education, health, and safety of all children. We speak with one voice for every child.

Our PTA is currently collecting membership dues and forms. Dues are $5 per member. Our goal is for each student enrolled to have 1 PTA membership.

School Security

Thank you all for understanding our updated security policies to include the addition of our video buzz in system. Additionally, to ensure building safety, please be reminded that parents are asked to make appointments with teachers and staff. We love our parents and love to maintain a high level of communication, but parents are discouraged from coming up to school to see a teacher before, during, or after school without an appointment scheduled. When a teacher stops to have a conversation with a parent, it takes his/her attention off the class, and we want to maintain safety for all students. In addition, please be reminded, as per Lynnhaven Elementary policies sent home in the summer with the class assignments, parents wishing to observe students must make an appointment with the administration. Thank you for your understanding!

School Planning Council

The School Planning Council is designed to give all stakeholders a voice in school planning throughout the year. If you are interested in serving on the School Planning Council, please contact Mrs. Breaux at 648-3000. The School Planning Council convenes a few times a year.
