MoB (Matters of Business)
Edgewood's Weekly Staff Update for the week of 11/19/18
We are committed to the journey of developing EACH child to be an inspired learner and a caring, contributing citizen.
Learning Notes
Professional Educators, here's a reminder of your Super Spy Mission, which is to be completed by the morning of 11/21. It's purpose is to be:
1) Fun
2) We know that gratitude is important to our well-being, and November is a month in which we remember to be thankful.
3) Our collective efficacy is increased when we know and maximize one another's strengths.
Your job is to identify 2 specific, awesome things that that person does that showcases our mission (see above). On the 21st, we'll share as our community builder. You might prepare something like this to say...
Holly Plevak...
1) Has independently taken on the role of morning student greeter. She often stands in the lobby--even when sick, and gives extra warm hugs to some kiddos who struggle with the transition from home to school.
2) She takes time when giving students their medication to give social skills lessons and pointers, teaching them about greeting and responding =).
If you forgot who you were assigned, ask! I have the master list. You can call me M. (Yes, that was a nerdy James Bond reference. What are the holidays without a James Bond Movie Marathon?)
TCB (Taking Care of Business)
- Report Cards are open for editing, and are locked for parents.
- Report Card Reminder: If a child receives a 2 or 4, please add a brief comment explaining why/what he/she is working on.
- At the Learning Celebration, 5th and 2nd grade students will share something they've learned/a goal they've accomplished at school this trimester.
Teaching Academic Vocabulary Tip of the Week
Here is a great way to introduce academic vocabulary in a way that students will be more likely to understand and remember it. I have found that doing so, especially with visuals, can be very effective.
Staff Shout Outs to...
To Nicki L for showing flexibility, willingness and no frustration when you have to change locations in the middle of teaching. Thank you. Diane
To Jenna S, Jessie, Sarah, Lori, Mireille, Jodi P, John, Susan, Deanne for your kindness, understanding and help. It is greatly appreciated and warms my heart. Diane
Shout out to Jenny and Rachael for planning and including balanced literacy lessons to really fit the needs of their students!
To Angie for her positive outlook and keeping it real!
To Steiner for taking the Let's Build It kids (for the whole hour) on Tuesday when the instructor didn't show. She gave them a snack and put a movie on for them. Thank you for doing this! Plevak
Hannis thanks for help in 4K!
Jodi Wilde thanks for all your copying and laminating!
