We're here for you! We understand the COVID-19 may be creating extra anxiety for people who are experiencing abuse. We are committed to continuing to serve everyone who needs us--we are also committed to protecting the health of our clients and team and doing our part to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
Check out our interim operating guidelines.
If you are in an abusive relationship, you should be aware that the extra stress and anxiety we are all experiencing puts you at extra risk and that abusers are likely to try to use the COVID-19 pandemic to their advantage. Abusers may:
Try to manipulate survivors into believing there are no resources available for them or that police or paramedics won’t respond to their calls.
Try to tell survivors that the abuser is infected, that they’ve infected the survivor, and if the survivor leaves them, they’ll put others at risk (a way to trap them at home).
Forbid the survivor from seeing friends or family because of the risk.
Downplay the risk and force the survivor to leave the house, or threaten to kick them out and expose them to the virus.
Limit sharing critical information about the virus with survivors.
Remember--One Safe Place provides an essential service, so we are still open. IF Y'ALL NEED US, Y'ALL COME SEE US. We are located at 1100 Hemphill Street in Fort Worth. It's a good idea to call before you come, and if you don't feel like it's safe to leave the house or to come visit us, we can help you by phone. Our number is 817-916-4323.
While our world, our country and our community are being affected by the pandemic of COVID-19, the significant problems created by violence, crisis, and poverty continue. The Women’s Center is committed to providing service to our community in the midst of these challenging times.
