Make your end of the year last day an academic celebration!
Action Items
2. Christmas brings busy parents, busy events for you outside of school, and it's easy to lose focus of school. Start when we return requiring students to memorize something. A poem, a song, a presentation, a story they wrote, explain how something works or whatever you come up with for that student. On that last week of school before the break start the sharing process. They can share in front of your class, other classes, or video the presentation. You could have them memorize a Christmas song and go around and carol on that Friday. Everyone complains that students can't memorize their math facts, so we must train them. I look forward to seeing all the great presentations. Speaking and Listening are standards.
3. Assessments - On Wednesdays with Julie, we expect you to analyze or create assessments. Please make the best use of that time!
4. School is challenging but if we couldn't do this we wouldn't be here. We have been placed here to support our students. I sat next to a mother this week telling Central Office staff or basically people she didn't know, how wonderful we are. "She doesn't know how they do it."
5. Education has changed and a new bar has been set. Education is going to be the civil right issue of the 21st century and beyond. Our students are the future and we MUST learn how to support and educate them. I'm in!
Sing along
Choral Concert - Dec. 10th 6:00 at the school.
Grades
Data
Start thinking of your grade book as a data notebook. We are teaching these standards this month or unit and I will be assessing this standard a multiple of ways and times. Some standards are process standards that we must build all year -math skills, writing skills. You are an architect building a learner. You are laying the foundation of literacy and number sense but most of all you a laying the love of learning. A curosity that is still present in me today! I still remember getting to sit in the bath tub in class because I brought in the most interesting bugs to class. Light the fire that never burns out!
This Thanksgiving remember to GIve Thanks too!
