SAS Update
October 11, 2019
THE WEEK AHEAD!
Note: Date Change!
Choir and guitar lessons that were supposed to be this Saturday have moved to next SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19,
10:30 a.m. in EXTENDED DAY, due to the holiday weekend! There will be no rehearsal on Saturday, October 26 so that everyone may enjoy the Halloween Pancake Breakfast.
Don't forget to bring your guitar for the FREE lesson that takes place during the second half hour, and if it's your first time in attendance, be sure to bring in your registration form, which can be printed here. Please drop off your singers at the Extended Day door (C3).
No School Today!
MONDAY, OCTOBER 14,
We also will not be placing a TRIP order, and the school and parish offices will be closed. Enjoy the three-day weekend!
Pre-K Check-in
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15,
6:00 p.m. in EXTENDED DAY
We didn't forget about you, PreK parents! Your mid-trimester check-in will be the day after Columbus Day. Come and tell us how it's going!
Pancake Breakfast Game Plan Session
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 7:00 p.m. in EXTENDED DAY
Help us plan our 10th annual Halloween Pancake Breakfast with the Lansing Copper Muggers! For those who are unaware, the Copper Muggers provide all of the food and cooking/serving labor at NO COST to us--their mission is to help worthy organizations raise needed funds. In our case, all of the money we make on the breakfast goes to cover field trip expenses for our students. The more we make, the more places they can go! And since we don't have to cook or serve, we are free to run a bake sale and sell raffle tickets to bring in even more money. So we need people to sign up for several committees and shifts at the breakfast, which you will find at the Signup link: Decorating, Bake Sale, and Raffle Baskets. There's also a NUT card in it for any students whose families contribute baked goods!
It's Not Too Late to Enjoy the Scholastic Book Fair -- Online!
Thank you to everyone who supported our Scholastic Book Fair this past week! If you didn't get the chance, or want to purchase more items online, our link is active October 2-15. There is a larger, expanded selection available there, and your purchase will be shipped to the school for FREE!
School Board Meeting
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 7:00 p.m. IN THE PARISH OFFICE
Our SAS School Board meets every third Wednesday of the month in the Parish Office. Meetings are open, and all are invited to attend. Get to know our School Board members by reading their bios on the St. Ann School website.
Palace Kickoff -- and Taco Night!
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17, 7:00 p.m. at J.J. KELLEY'S
It is no secret that our school enrollment is a bit lower than usual this year. So our big March fundraiser will be more important than ever to keep SAS vital and thriving for the future while we work on our growth. We are asking as many parents as possible to please consider joining our planning session next Thursday for the Night at the Palace event coming in March of next year. We will meet casually and socially to get to know each other, gather your ideas and opinions, and begin to form a strategy for the event. Our younger and newer families should have a voice, as well as those veteran school parents who have been waiting to speak up--and we want to hear YOU!
We will gather in the Clover Room at J.J. Kelley's, 2455 Bernice Road, Lansing, where it just so happens to be 50 Cent Taco Night! Please bring your ideas and your friends―the more the merrier!
Bilingual VIRTUS Training
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17, 7-10:00 p.m.
Don't forget, all parents, guardians, and other adults over 18 years old who are interested in helping with children ages 18 and under are required to undergo a VIRTUS training session before being allowed to volunteer in any capacity with children present. Register online by visiting the VIRTUS Online site and clicking on Start Registration. We will run English and Spanish sessions simultaneously. English will meet in the School Hall, and Spanish will gather in the School Library. Both should enter through Door P1. You must stay for the entire training, and no one under the age of 18 may attend.
HOly Fire
On Friday, October 18, our 6th-8th graders will travel to the UIC Pavilion to attend Holy Fire Chicago, Hoan exciting one-day program for sixth through ninth graders that promotes a continuous encounter with Jesus Christ. Let's pray for all of our students who will be attending!
Altar Server Training
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18, 4-6:00 p.m. in CHURCH
All 4th-8th graders are invited to become Altar Servers! Becoming an Altar Server is not only an honor but an important part in the offering of the Mass. Servers assist the priest at school and weekend Masses in the celebration of the Eucharist, which is the cornerstone of our faith. You will be able to choose your preferred weekend Mass time and indicate any dates that your child is unavailable. New servers must complete the training and shadow a current server three times--this is easy and can be done at any Mass you are already attending. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Cindy Hope, Altar Server Ministry, at 708-474-2914.
October Supper Club at Buona Schererville
Come on out for lunch or dinner--or both! Be sure to bring your voucher, which will come home in next week's envelope or may be printed from our website. Like and share the Buona invitation from our Facebook page.
Halloween Pancake Breakfast Tix
All families will soon receive five $5 tickets to the Halloween Pancake Breakfast in their Thursday Envelopes. You paid for these upfront with your fundraising fee, and can use them yourself for the breakfast or re-sell them to earn your $25 back. If you need more, they will be available in the Parish Office and at the door the morning of the breakfast. Remember, all funds raised go toward field trips for our children, so be sure to tell everyone you know and bring them along! Please share on social media as well; the Facebook event can be found here.
Trunk or Treat and the Chili Cook-Off Will Be Here Before We Know It!
If you want to participate by decorating your trunk and handing out goodies, or by competing in the Chili Cook-Off, please register at the Car Sign-Up and Chili Cook-Off link. If you'd rather be a general helper or sign your 8th Grader up to work for Confirmation hours, the Trunk or Treat link is the place for you!
Chili Cook-Off at Trunk or Treat
Is your chili the best? Now's your chance to prove it! Register at the Signup Link to be one of a dozen contestants who will compete in our first-ever Chili Cook-Off for bragging rights (and a prize!). Entry fee is only $10 and a large crock of your famous chili (made at home and brought in something in which you can keep it warm). Tasters will pay $5, and we will provide tasting bowls and spoons. We will have local celebrity judges, and tasters will also vote for a fan favorite. Bring on the chili!
You Can Still Get a Discount on Early Yearbook Orders!
Order your 2019/20 yearbooks by October 30 and get 10% off the $25.00 regular price! Go to www.treering.com/validate and enter our St. Ann School code: 101378829749327. If you like to customize your two free pages, you do not need to do so at this time--you have most of the school year to accomplish this, so no pressure other than to save money!
We are already working on the current yearbook, so if you take any photos that you wouldn't mind sharing with us, we would love to have them. Field trips, classroom parties, sports candids, and other events, we always need these! Please email your contributions to yearbook@stannschoollansing.org.
Save the Date: Friday, November 22
We're still working on the details, but HSA will be holding its very first St. Ann Trivia Night! Put it on your calendars, and plan to come to the next HSA meeting on Monday, October 21 to help with the details. If you have an idea or would like to join the committee, please send an email to Janniew710@aol.com.
Are You Sending in Your Stracks Receipts? Please ask others to save them for you too!
Collect Strack & VanTil Food Market register receipts dated between September 1, 2019 and March 2, 2020 to help St. Ann earn FREE educational rewards! Every classroom has a Collection Envelope, and we will be tallying the value of the receipts turned in. The class that brings in the most will win a prize!
Weekly School Masses
We attend Mass together as a school community every Wednesday morning in the Church at 9:00 a.m. Please join us any time!
