McClatchey Messenger For Staff
August 28, 2020
I have received many compliments bragging about the DME staff. Many have noted kindness, patience, and dedication! I think this speaks volumes about each of you.
The ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum) defines teaching the whole child as an effort to transition from a focus on narrowly defined academic achievement to one that promotes the long-term development and success of all children. A whole child approach, which ensures that each student is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged, sets the standard for comprehensive, sustainable school improvement and provides for long-term student success.
I believe we strive to do this at DME. We develop strong relationship with our students, we care about their health and safety, and we support their learning by focusing on designing lessons that encourage them to communicate, collaborate, think critically, and be creative.
Yes, school is going to continue to look different, but our goal to educate the whole child remains the same.

Do your tutor kids? Policy Change
A teacher may offer paid tutoring services outside of school to students who attend the school the teacher is assigned to IF they are not in the grade taught by the teacher.
For clarification, a 3rd grade teacher at Miller may tutor 2nd grade and/or 4th grade students at Miller. The teacher may NOT tutor any 3rd grade Miller students for compensation. The teacher is allowed to tutor 3rd grade students who attend other MISD elementary schools.
Each student will also receive a magnet to take home.

From The Counselor-This will be included in the family newsletter.
Hello McClatchey families! My name is Nikki Moon and I am the school counselor. Students will have access to counseling support or consultation with their counselor during virtual learning. To schedule a time with your counselor, you can sign up by clicking on the following link: School Counseling Referral This will allow your counselor to schedule a time to meet with you. Meetings are pre-scheduled time slots to ensure that students can be met with. Meetings will not extend past 30 minutes in order to respect other scheduled times. You may also email me at nikki.moon@misd.gs if you need help. Another option is to scan the QR code below that will take you to the school counseling referral link. Thank you so much and we are here to help support our families!

DME PTO
Make sure you join our PTO website! Spirit gear forms, membership forms, and sponsorship forms will all be located on the website this year.
Sunshine Committee
We have a committee called McClatchey Sunshine. This is put together by the staff, for the staff. Chaynie Borum and I are the new reps for our club. Each year, around the end of August, we will collect an OPTIONAL fee from each staff member that wants to join our committee. The goal of our group is to help when a staff member is in need, or has an unexpected life event that takes place. Also, weddings and baby showers, too! Dues are as follows:
- $25 collected from full time staff members
- $15 collected from part time staff members
Remember, this is an optional donation to our fund. We used the fund already this year for a death in a family, and a car accident. The deadline to join is Friday, September 4th. You can pay in the form of cash or check. Checks will need to be made out to McClatchey Sunshine.
