How to Submit News to SaberSpeak
Information to be considered for inclusion in the newsletter must be emailed to dsinopoli@st-hilary.org by 3:00 p.m. on Friday for the following week. Information must be relevant to the St. Hilary School or St. Hilary Parish community, and cannot promote a personal interest or a school other than our own. The school reserves the right to determine what content will be included.
Principal's Message
As May begins, our thoughts turn to winding down the school year and reflecting on the many great things our school community has accomplished together and planned for the future. We hope your children have grown not just physically this year, but spiritually and intellectually, as well. We are grateful for the sacrifices you make so that your children may receive a St. Hilary School education. You may not know that May is also Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month. Click here for more information about the generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America's history and are instrumental in its future success.
This spring has been busy so far, and we have several of our busiest weeks ahead. Students in grades K-8 are taking their final round of MAP tests now, and results of these tests will be sent home in the next few weeks. CAT test results for grades 1, 3, 5, and 7 will be sent home with final report cards.
Please keep our second graders close in prayer as they receive the sacrament of First Communion on May 8. Second graders will join the processional wearing their special First Communion shirts at our May 14 school Mass, and will enjoy some special activities that day. Also at the May 14 Mass, we will have our May Crowning ceremony and award this year's Kevin Neff Scholarship. The scholarship will again be supported by our annual Kevin Neff Volleyball Tournament, which will be held after school on May 19.
We will say goodbye to our eighth graders at the farewell Mass on May 28 at 9:30 a.m. Our eighth graders will graduate on June 1 at 5:30 p.m. God bless all of them as they move to their respective high schools. All students in grades K-7 will celebrate the end of the school year with a special field day / picnic on June 2. There will be no school on May 31 in observance of Memorial Day. Our final school Mass will be June 3 at 9:30 a.m. Students in grades K-7 will be dismissed for the summer on June 3, as well.
Other goodbyes to be said this spring include Sister Carol Joy, who retired early in the school year, and Fr. Matt, who will soon move on to his new assignment at St. Basil the Great Parish in Brecksville. We will honor Sister Carol Joy at a special outdoor Mass on May 17, and will say farewell to Fr. Matt at our final school Mass on June 3. As we have been all year, we will be live streaming these Masses so parents can join us from home.
Fourth quarter interim reports were issued on April 30. Final report cards for all students will be sent home with students on the last day of school. Please make sure that your 2020-2021 tuition and fees have been paid in full prior to the end of the school year so that we can release your child’s final report card. Please direct questions regarding tuition and fees to Business Manager Lou Camerato at 867-1055, ext. 203.
Please check the weekly newsletter emails and the school website for other important information during the weeks ahead. During these busy weeks, please take time to enjoy all that is special about this school year with your children. Before you know it, they will be advancing to the next grade. We hope you savor each moment!
Looking ahead to summer, please continue to foster your children’s spiritual and academic growth by attending Mass and encouraging reading and other skills practice during the break. Summer bridge books are wonderful tools that allow children to keep skills sharp in a variety of areas with just a few minutes spent each day. We challenge you and your families to continue to live out our school theme of answering God's call to change the world. We appreciate all you do to partner with us in providing the best possible educational experience for your children!
Wishing you all the blessings of May!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Woodman
Principal

COVID-19 Updates
SUMMIT COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH OFFERING POP-UP VACCINE SITES BEGINNING MAY 3
Summit County Public Health will offer several pop-up vaccination sites beginning May 3. Click below for complete details.
TRAVEL QUARANTINE REQUIREMENT
As we have stated since August, we are requiring students to self-quarantine for 14 days after visiting states that have a 15% or more COVID-19 positivity rate.
As of March 10, Ohio no longer publishes the list or map of travel advisory states. The following links may be of help to you in determining whether your travel plans involve a state that has a 15% or more COVID-19 positivity rate:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/travel-during-covid19.html
https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#testing_positivity7day
Please also see the COVID-19 Travel Advisory FAQs below.
This is an extra precaution and we know this could impact travel plans. If your children are learning in-person, we are asking you to respect this decision and plan accordingly. Students who are required to quarantine after traveling to a state (or country) with a 15% or higher COVID-19 positivity rate will be required to distance learn for the 14 days.
COVID-19 DASHBOARD
We have added a COVID-19 Dashboard to our school website to report up-to-the-minute positive case data for students and staff members. Click here for our COVID-19 Dashboard.

GIRL SCOUT RECYCLING PROJECT TO BENEFIT OUR SCHOOL - YOU CAN HELP!
8th grade Girl Scout Troop 91116 is collecting 250 pounds of plastic bottle caps as a part of their Silver Award project. The caps will be recycled into a bench to be given to the school. Each classroom will collect bottle caps from now until the end of the school year. The classroom in each grade who collects the most pounds of caps will be treated to a class dress down pass (or popsicle party for kindergartners). Families are encouraged to send clean bottle caps collected from home. Please click below for a flyer with information about caps that can be collected. Thank you for your support!

CYO SPORTS PICTURE COORDINATOR NEEDED
We are seeking a St. Hilary parent to coordinate the CYO Sports pictures that are taken for the St. Hilary yearbook. This person would work with Lifetouch, the Athletic Director, and the St. Hilary Facilities Scheduler to have pictures taken in the Fall, Winter and Spring seasons. NEXT SCHOOL MASS MAY 7
Our next school Mass will be May 7 at 9:30 a.m. This school Mass will be planned by grade 6, and will be live streamed and available to view at http://sthilarychurch.org/live/.
**PLEASE NOTE: Our live page has been updated. School Masses are available for viewing on the Watch Live Mass page. You will simply see a window on the page - not a link. Other events will still be viewed live by clicking a link as you have in the past.
This year’s liturgy schedule can be found in the Forms and Documents section under the Red Folder on the school website. Masses are also posted on the school Google calendar, with the grade level planning the Mass listed. Upcoming school Masses are May 14 planned by Grade 2 (May Crowning, Kevin Neff Scholarship), May 21 planned by grade 1, May 28 planned by grade 8 (Farewell Mass), and June 3 planned by grade 4 (Final Mass).
We will continue to celebrate Mass together each week and on holy days. Each grade level (1-8) will plan several Masses as usual, but only the grade level planning the Mass will attend in person. Parents and grandparents of participants may attend but must sit in the back of the Church away from students. Masses will be live streamed and available for all to watch, and students not attending Mass in person will watch live streamed Mass from their classrooms. Eucharistic ministers will come to the classrooms to distribute Holy Communion. We will handle other religious services and events in a similar way.
