The Mustang Round Up
May 14, 2023
Happy Mother's Day!
Good Evening Mustang Families,
This month we honor Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and celebrate the many contributions and achievements of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. It is observed in May to commemorate the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the United States on May 7, 1843, and the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869, which was built predominantly by Chinese immigrants. This month is significant because it recognizes the rich history, culture, and diversity of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. This month is also an opportunity to reflect on the challenges that Asian and Pacific Islander Americans have faced, such as discrimination and prejudice, and to continue working towards a more just and equitable society.
Over 23 million in number, The Smithsonian says Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are now the fastest-growing demographic group in the United States. Yet, AAPI individuals, families, and communities have been disproportionately impacted and harmed by the cascading crises of the global pandemic and the legacies of entrenched anti-Asian racism and discrimination. In this time of increasing fear and violence, we as a Marshall community celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month by honoring the long history of Asian American culture and reaffirming our need to come together as Americans.
Have a great week Marshall,
Josh Way, Ed.D
Congratulations to Mrs. Julie Rick!
