This Week in Our Classes
We will dedicate the last part of the year to vocabulary building. Students will receive a vocabulary list, which will also include a section for students to add more words, either that they come up with on their own or ones that we add in class. In this way, they will have an active, personalized vocabulary list. Currently, we're working on house vocabulary. Now's a great time to gather some post-its and markers and let your children label everything in your house in Spanish! Students will also be quizzed daily on small sections of the vocabulary.
Science
With Sr. Torres, students learned about different types of animals and habitats. We will be reviewing that content as well as learning about food chains (cadena alimenticia or cadena alimentaria) and food webs (red alimentaria). We will be completing numerous activities to reinforce these concepts and students will have the opportunity to explore food chains in different environments.
Social Studies
Students have been studying landforms (accidentes geográficos) and we will be reviewing these, playing some games to test our knowledge and will culminate our study with an edible landform project. If you're able to help provide some of the supplies, we'd be most appreciative! I will send out a separate message later this week with supplies needed and a sign-up sheet.
Math
As we wrap up the year, we will be reviewing the topics we've studied throughout this year. My math group will be taking short "quizzes" at the beginning of each class and as well be receiving 3-4 word problems each day to work through. After completing those word problems, either in class or as homework, I will ask that they explain in writing how they solved the problem. It's always great when we can combine and practice multiple skills! For extra practice at home, don't forget to use IXL and flash cards for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
