Career readiness is “the attainment and demonstration of requisite competencies that broadly prepare college graduates for a successful transition into the workplace” (National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), 2016).
At the Auburn University Career Center, we are promoting and educating the importance of the eight Career Readiness Competencies. Our staff is committed to helping students gain a Career Ready foundation in order to prepare and to transition students for their next steps as well as their respective careers.
It is essential for college graduates to possess Career Readiness Competencies in order to be successful in a work environment. Recruiters and interviewers are looking for qualified candidates that embody and harness the following competencies:
- Leadership
- Digital Technology
- Teamwork & Collaboration
- Oral & Written Communication
- Professionalism & Work Ethic
- Career Management
- Global/Intercultural Fluency
- Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
Identifying and developing these Career Ready Competencies will be beneficial to students by emphasizing engagement in the classroom, preparation for leadership positions, performance in the workplace, and applications for graduate or professional school. The Career Center is creating avenues and raising awareness so all students will become career ready.
