Prime Time Reading (Grades K-2)

Prime Time Reading Night is TONIGHT Friday, February 9th from 6-8PM for our K-2 students. Please plan to arrive between 5:45-6:00. The theme this year is "Reading Makes Dreams Come True", and students (along with a parent) will enjoy fairy-tale themed activities and skits performed by their very own teachers!

Students are invited to wear their pajamas, but will need appropriate footwear and clothing for a Gym activity. You will also want to bring a favorite book, a flashlight and a blanket.

Elementary Honors Chorus Concert

This Saturday, 20 Vernfield fifth grade students will be participating in the first annual SASD Elementary Honors Chorus. They have been working very hard the past month to rehearse and prepare the music for the upcoming concert. The concert will be held Saturday, February 10 at 2PM at Indian Crest Middle School. Good luck to the student musicians!

Home and School Meeting

Please join us for our February Home and School meeting, this Monday, February 12th at 7:00PM in the Library. We will have a special guest speaker, Mrs. Lightstone (our school librarian) coming to give a presentation on children's literature. All are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Valentine's Day Socials

Our Valentine's Day socials will be held on Valentine's Day this Wednesday from 2-3 PM. Homeroom parent volunteers may begin arriving at 1:30 PM.

Colors of Joy Spirit Day

Friday, February 16 will be a 'Colors of Joy' Student Council Spirit Day. What colors mean joy to you? For people celebrating the Chinese New Year, they celebrate by wearing the colors red and gold. Red is for good fortune and happiness together with gold is for wealth, both are the colors of the New Year. What colors mean happiness and good fortune to you? Wear them to school on Friday!

The printable calendar has been updated to include Race for Education and to reflect changes with snow make-up days.

The Vernfield Elementary Marci Yoder Scholarship Fund

In memory of Mrs. Yoder, a scholarship fund has been created, which will be awarded to a Souderton Area High School graduate that is entering the field of education and had been a student at Vernfield for at least 3 years. This student will also need to be one that has followed the Vernfield Vision throughout their school career.

If any families are interested in donating to the Vernfield Elementary Marci Yoder Scholarship Fund, please send a check made out to Vernfield Home and School with Marci Yoder Scholarship Fund specified on the memo area of your check. Thank you!

DVD Literacy

Thank you to all of the volunteers that helped record our 3rd grade students this week!

The committee will begin taping our 2nd grade students the week of February 26th. Please see information below if you are interested in helping!

If you have not yet signed a permission form for your child (it only needs to be done once), a copy will be sent home in your child's communicator or you can find it online here (see also permission letter).

The DVD Literacy committee needs volunteers to help record the students during the school day. No experience necessary! If you are interested in volunteering, please email Amy Thompson at

Kidstuff Books

Our Kidstuff committee has 16 books left that can be offered for a discounted price of $15.00 (originally $25.00). Our school will get to keep $6.00 for each of these books sold. If you are interested in purchasing one of these books, please contact Betsy Powlus

Race for Education (Spring 2018)

Yearbook (Spring 2018 and future)

The Yearbook Committee is looking for help with the Spring 2018 Yearbook as well as someone to begin learning how to put together the yearbook when the current staff 'graduates'. The students love receiving a yearbook, and it is a great way to preserve memories from year to year. If you are interested, please contact Sandra Esposito at

Pod Parents (Summer 2018)

Our Pod Parent committee needs a new chair for the 2018-2019 school year. Pod parents are volunteers that help teachers with many 'start up' tasks during the first week of school, which include copying, cutting, labeling, sorting, etc. The main role of the chair of this committee is create a Sign-up genius to send to interested parents. Free Family Program (Wednesdays, Feb 7 - Mar 21)

The Indian Valley Character Counts Coalition (IVCCC) is offering a free "Family Night Out" program for parents and youth ages 10 - 14 at Indian Crest Middle School. The program, dinner, child care for younger siblings, raffles and prizes are all provided free of charge. You and your children will learn skills to help your family succeed during the teen years. Wednesdays 5:30 - 8:00 PM for seven weeks beginning February 7th. Registration is required by contacting Donna Lea Pyrz at or 215-723-3569, ext. 116. IVEF February Fundraiser

The Indian Valley Education Foundation (IVEF) is holding a fundraiser through One Village Coffee. A portion of every purchase will benefit IVEF and the Souderton Area School District. Money raised will fund programs like SASD Next, 1:1 Computing, STEAM Initiatives, Innovation Grants and more!
