Simmons Elementary School

November 10, 2021

Mrs. Karen Kanter, Principal (

Dr. Robert Campman, Assistant Principal (

We have settled back to normal following Friday's fire emergency. Dr. Campman and I visited classrooms Monday morning and were impressed with the flexibility and resilience of our young learners. During morning meeting, teachers checked in with their students and helped them return to our expected routines. We appreciate the collaboration and cooperation from the school families in getting each child home safely on Friday!

American Education Week is observed next week. We will be offering a virtual opportunity to visit your child's classroom, instead of our traditional family breakfasts and in-person visits. We appreciate your understanding as we modify our school events to maximize in-person learning and minimize any health risks. Your child's teacher will be in touch this week about how to connect virtually to their class the week of November 15th.

Family Conferences will be held on Thursday and Friday, December 9th and 10th. School dismisses at 1 p.m. on those two days. This year, we are offering families the option of in-person or virtual conferences with their child's teacher. We hope this flexibility allows everyone to comfortably connect with the teachers to share progress from the first trimester and goals for the rest of the academic year.

Holiday Shop - New for 2021!

The Holiday Shop at Simmons Elementary School will have a new look this year! We will offer families the opportunity to shop on Saturday, December 4th, in the cafeteria from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adult family members can shop with their child or, if you want to keep the gifts as a holiday surprise, children can safely shop by themselves with the help of our volunteers.

If families aren't able to come on Saturday, December 4th, we will have limited shopping hours available for students on Monday, December 6th, during the school day.

Stay tuned for more information about Holiday Shop 2021 from our Home and School Association.

Fire Prevention Virtual Assembly

Last Thursday afternoon before our fire emergency, Dr. Campman visited the Horsham Fire Company and livestreamed a tour of the fire station to all Simmons classrooms. Assistant Chief Cole and Firefighter Sharkey showed students the fire equipment and safety gear. They taught the students prevention techniques such as "stop, drop, and roll" and creating a family emergency plan.

We greatly appreciate the Horsham Fire Department's quick response to our emergency situation on Friday!
